Monogenic Causes in Familial Stroke Across Intracerebral Hemorrhage and Ischemic Stroke Subtypes Identified by Whole-Exome Sequencing
Cell Mol Neurobiol. 2022 Dec 29. doi: 10.1007/s10571-022-01315-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWhole exome sequencing (WES) has been used to detect rare causative variants in neurological diseases. However, the efficacy of WES in genetic diagnosis of clinically heterogeneous familial stroke remains inconclusive. We prospectively searched for disease-causing variants in unrelated probands with defined familial stroke by candidate gene/hotspot screening and/or WES, depending on stroke subtypes and neuroimaging features at a referral center. The clinical significance of each variant was determined according to the American C...

Thromboembolic events in atrial fibrillation: Different level of risk and pattern between peripheral artery disease and coronary artery disease.
CONCLUSIONS: PAD or CAD in patients with AF did not contribute equally to the risk prediction and presentation of IS and STE. Patients with polyvascular disease should be considered at higher risk than those with either condition. PMID: 33518472 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Renal Function-Dependent Associations of Statins with Outcomes of Ischemic Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with acute ischemic stroke, the associations of statins with mortality and functional outcomes was dependent on eGFR. PMID: 32418948 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Duration of Clopidogrel-Based Dual Antiplatelet Therapy and Clinical Outcomes in Patients With Acute Coronary Syndrome Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention - A Real-World Observation in Taiwan From 2012 to 2015.
CONCLUSIONS: Our data showed that short duration of DAPT (≤9 months) was common (42.1%) in Taiwan for ACS patients undergoing PCI. DAPT ≤9 months increased the risk of the primary outcome. PMID: 31061379 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

1 Ventricular assist devices: developments in asia and global outlook for the next 10 years
The advent of left ventricular assist systems to support patients with advanced-stage heart failure has been a 50 year odyssey, now available broadly to such patients.1 Engineering advances have ushered in an era of small, durable devices that can be fully implanted within the chest. Yet, haemocompatibility related adverse events, which emanate from the interaction between the device and the patient they support are manifest principally in increased stroke rates, de novo device thrombosis requiring replacement and in gastrointestinal bleeding (a peculiar adverse event resulting from the unnatural physiology of continuous f...

Low Cholesterol Levels Increase Symptomatic Intracranial Hemorrhage Rates After Intravenous Thrombolysis: A Multicenter Cohort Validation Study.
CONCLUSIONS: This study supports the strong association between reduced LDL-C and increased SICH, but not for functional outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke treated with intravenous thrombolysis. LDL-C level of <130 mg/dL is supposed to a candidate marker for predicting SICH within 24-36 h. PMID: 30464112 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The predictive role of CHA2DS2–VASc score between venous thromboembolism and ischemic stroke: a large-scale cohort study
Conclusion: Our study is the first to concern the performance of CHA2DS2–VASc score in predicting the risk of ischemic stroke in VTE patients and the risk of VTE in ischemic stroke patients. Nevertheless, the performance of the score was modest, and the transportability of the score in these populations still needs to be defined.
