Long-term Follow-up Results after Flow Diverter Therapy Using the Pipeline Embolization Device for Large or Giant Unruptured Internal Carotid Artery Aneurysms: Single-center Retrospective Analysis in the Japanese Population
Neurol Med Chir (Tokyo). 2021 Oct 27. doi: 10.2176/nmc.oa.2021-0203. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFlow diverter (FD) therapy using Pipeline embolization device (PED) has become an important alternative to treat internal carotid artery (ICA) aneurysms. Herein, we report the long-term outcome for 3 years after FD therapy using PED for ICA aneurysms in Japan. The patients who underwent angiographical and/or clinical follow-up for 3 years after the FD therapy using PED of large or giant unruptured ICA aneurysms from December 2012 at our university hospital are the subjects of this study. We retrospectively reviewed the in- an...

Basilar artery occlusion presenting as sudden bilateral deafness: a case report
ConclusionsWhen hearing loss is due to vertebrobasilar occlusive disease, the prognosis is very poor. We suggest that vertebrobasilar stroke be suspected in patients with bilateral sensorineural hearing loss who present with risk factors for stroke such as atrial fibrillation and other neurologic signs.

Peri-thrombus vascular hyperintensity sign: detection of intracranial thrombus location and length in acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionThe PVHS on 3D BB contrast-enhanced MRI is a highly specific tool for evaluating the location and length of a thrombus in AIS patients.

Intravenous Thrombolysis in Posterior Circulation Stroke
Conclusions: Up to date, no data about PCIS and IVT are available from RTCs. Based on limited results from retrospective clinical studies and case series, IVT is safer for use in PCIS than in ACIS. Patients with brainstem ischemia, vertebral artery occlusion, and absence of basilar or posterior cerebral artery occlusion could be considered for treatment with IVT even in borderline cases. Time to IVT in PCIS seems to be a less crucial factor than in ACIS. IVT for PCIS may be beneficial even after 4.5 h from symptom onset. Evaluation of Lenticulostriate Arteries Changes by 7 T Magnetic Resonance Angiography in Type 2 Diabetes.
CONCLUSION: In spite of the prevalence of SVD being similar, structural changes and decreased signal intensity of LSA were highly detected in diabetic subjects compared with non-diabetic controls, suggesting that 7 T MRA enables us to determine LSA impairment prior to the development of SVD. Early detection of LSA impairment allows us earlier interventions aimed at the prevention of atherosclerotic events. PMID: 29503412 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Aortic Root Calcification Score as an Independent Factor for Predicting Major Adverse Cardiac Events in Familial Hypercholesterolemia.
CONCLUSIONS: ARC was significantly associated with future MACE in Japanese patients with heterozygous FH. ARC may start to develop, on average, at 17.4 and 19.7 years of age in males and females, respectively, with heterozygous FH. PMID: 29321389 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

E-088 Investigation of safety termination of antiplatelet therapy after lvis stent-assisted cerebral aneurysm coiling
Conclusion Termination of AT at 3 months postoperatively did not result in ischemic events among patients who underwent LSAC. Neointimal formation of Lvis stent may be a criterion for termination of AT without increasing the risk of ischemic event. Disclosures: K. Takayama: None. K. Myouchin: None. T. Wada: None. S.
