E-260 Bilateral cerebral arteriovenous shunting through pial and perforating vessels with multiple strokes and intraparenchymal hemorrhages in a patient with hepatopulmonary syndrome
This study presents a unique case of a 54-year-old male patient with a history of stroke, liver cirrhosis, portal vein thrombosis, hypertension, diabetes, and bladder cancer, who experienced multiple episodes of intracranial hemorrhages, stroke and worsening confusion over the past five years. The patient‘s clinical presentation raised suspicion for an underlying occult vasculopathy. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) revealed multiple curvilinear, irregular, bilateral pial vessels with early high-flow arteriovenous shunting, consistent with vascular shunting that is associated with liver cirrhosis. The patient&ls...

Absence of susceptibility vessel sign and hyperdense vessel sign in patients with cancer-related stroke
ConclusionThe absence of SVS but not HVS could help to identify paraneoplastic hypercoagulability in stroke patients with active cancer and guide patient care.

Cumulative Incidence of Thromboembolism and Prognostic Impact of Stroke in < em > BRAF < /em > V600E-mutant Non-small-cell Lung Cancer
CONCLUSION: A substantial proportion of patients with BRAF V600E-mutant lung cancer experienced thromboembolism during their disease course. CRS of undetermined source may predict a worse prognosis in this population.PMID:36697098 | DOI:10.21873/anticanres.16237

Real-World Study Confirms Benefit of XARELTO ® (rivaroxaban) for Secondary Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism in Cancer Patients
TITUSVILLE, NJ, December 9, 2022 – The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson today announced observational data from eight years of clinical practice showing that the oral Factor Xa inhibitor XARELTO® (rivaroxaban) is associated with comparable effectiveness and safety to the Factor Xa inhibitor apixaban for the treatment of cancer-associated thromboembolism (CAT) in a broad cohort of patients with various cancer types. Patients with CAT are at a higher risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), which is the second-leading cause of death in people with cancer.1Data from the Observational Study in Cancer-A...

Diindolylmethane Ameliorates Ischemic Stroke-Induced Brain Injury by Peripheral and Central Mechanisms
CONCLUSION: This inhibition of platelet aggregation, platelet mediated oxidative stress, and inflammation, improved blood flow, and reduced neurological deficits, brain infarction, BBB leakage, brain water content, and histopathological abnormalities indicate the preservation of brain structural integrity. Therefore, these findings conclude that DIM exhibits neuroprotection by inhibiting platelet aggregation. Thus, the present study provided preclinical evidence of DIM neuroprotection against ischemic stroke.PMID:36397630 | DOI:10.2174/1567202620666221116161128

Podoplanin: Its roles and functions in neurological diseases and brain cancers
Podoplanin is a small mucin-like glycoprotein involved in several physiological and pathological processes in the brain including development, angiogenesis, tumors, ischemic stroke and other neurological disorders. Podoplanin expression is upregulated in different cell types including choroid plexus epithelial cells, glial cells, as well as periphery infiltrated immune cells during brain development and neurological disorders. As a transmembrane protein, podoplanin interacts with other molecules in the same or neighboring cells. In the past, a lot of studies reported a pleiotropic role of podoplanin in the modulation of th...

E-164 Recurrent strokes as the initial presentation of colorectal adenocarcinoma
ConclusionCryptogenic strokes in patients with cancer are cardioembolic manifestations of cancer-mediated hypercoagulability such as NBTE, which consists of sterile, platelet-fibrin vegetations on cardiac valves. The mechanism of thromboembolism in patients with cancer is based on the interaction between tumor cells and leukocytes, which creates a thrombogenic vascular lining and induces the release of substances that activate the coagulation cascade. The diagnosis of NBTE should depend on the distribution of occluded vessels, identification of thrombus, and exclusion of other possible causes such as infective endocarditis...

Inflammation and Severe Cerebral Venous Thrombosis
This study reviews the current literature regarding the involvement of inflammation in the pathophysiology and anti-inflammatory interventions of severe CVT, which would contribute to informing the pathophysiology mechanism and laying a foundation for exploring novel severe CVT therapeutic strategies.
