The relationship between thyroid dysfunction, cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in type 2 diabetes: The Fremantle Diabetes Study Phase II
ConclusionsSubclinical hypothyroidism was not independently associated with CVD events or mortality in community-dwelling people with type 2 diabetes despite its associations with CVD risk factors, questioning strategies to identify and/or treat mild thyroid dysfunction outside usual care.

Challenges in the Management of Atrial Fibrillation With Subclinical Hyperthyroidism
Subclinical thyroid disorders have a high prevalence among older individuals and women. Subclinical hypothyroidism is diagnosed by elevated serum levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) with thyroxine levels within the reference range, and subclinical hyperthyroidism is diagnosed by low TSH in conjunction with thyroxine and triiodothyronine levels within reference ranges. Atrial fibrillation is the most commonly diagnosed cardiac arrhythmia and has been associated with an increased risk of mortality, heart failure, stroke, and depression. Mechanistic data from animal and human physiology studies as well as observationa...

Hypothyroidism is associated with clinical outcomes in patients with acute myocardial infarction: subgroup analysis of China PEACE study
ConclusionCompared with euthyroid status, hypothyroid status has an independent predicting value for adverse cardiovascular events in AMI patients. Further investigations are required to illustrate whether treatment of thyroid dysfunction could improve the prognosis of AMI patients.

Subclinical Thyroid Function and Cardiovascular Events in patients with Atrial Fibrillation
CONCLUSIONS: Subclinical hypothyroidism was not associated with increased CV risk in AF patients. Higher levels of fT4 with normal TSH were associated with higher risk for HF.PMID:34228632 | DOI:10.1530/EJE-20-1442

Thyroid Hormone Therapy and Incident Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Both exogenous hyper- and hypothyroidism were associated with increased risk of stroke, highlighting the importance of patient medication safety.PMID:34137866 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgab444

Hypothyroidism and Adverse Endpoints in Diabetic Patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: These findings indicate that diabetic patients with hypothyroidism have an increased risk of DR and CKD. Additional large-scale prospective studies should be carried out to verify the prognosis of patients with diabetes and hypothyroidism.

Thyroid Function, Cardiovascular Risk Factors, and Incident Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease: The Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) Study.
Conclusions: Hypothyroidism is associated with hyperlipidemia, but the magnitude is small in mild chemical hypothyroidism, and cardiovascular outcomes are similar between thyroid function groups. PMID: 28605456 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Subclinical hypothyroidism and risk of cerebral small vessel disease: a hospital ‐based observational study
ConclusionsThese findings showed that SCH might be associated with the presence of WMLs, CMBs, as well as cSVD burden in patients with minor stroke or TIA.This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Long-term Outcome in Levothyroxine Treated Patients with Subclinical Hypothyroidism and Concomitant Heart Disease.
CONCLUSION: Levothyroxine treatment in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism and heart disease was not associated with a significant benefit nor risk of all-cause mortality, MACE or hospital admission in this large real-world cohort study. PMID: 27571183 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Cognitive Function and the Ageing Process: The Peculiar Role of Mild Thyroid Failure.
Conclusion The available data suggest a complex relationship between mild thyroid failure and the ageing process as well as the development and progression of several cardiovascular and neurological diseases. In this paper, we reviewed the scientific English literature on sHT and the ageing process focusing on experimental evidences related to cognitive impairment and dementia. Moreover, we focused on new patents of treatments potentially able to improve the care of sHT patients, especially in the elderly, where treatment drawbacks may have negative impact on the long term outcome. Subclinical Hypothyroidism and the Risk of Stroke Events and Fatal Stroke: An Individual Participant Data Analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: Although no overall effect of subclinical hypothyroidism on stroke could be demonstrated, an increased risk in subjects younger than 65 years and those with higher TSH concentrations was observed. PMID: 25856213 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
