Abstract 072: Impact of Chronic Diabetes on Periprocedural Outcomes Among Patient With Atrial Fibrillation and Flutter Who Underwent Radiofrequency Catheter Ablation Therapy (RFA). Report From the NIS 2014. Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusions: RFA has a similar procedural safety in diabetics when compared to non-diabetic patients. It remains a safe procedure in diabetics with drug-refractory atrial fibrillation and flutter. Renal failure, CHF, type of Insurance, hospital location and teaching status are predictors of complications after RFA.

How does sex affect the care dependency risk one year after stroke? A study based on claims data from a German health insurance fund.
DISCUSSION: It may be assumed that women have a higher risk of becoming care-dependent after stroke than men because they are older and suffer more often from geriatric conditions such as urinary incontinence at onset of stroke. Preventive strategies should therefore focus on geriatric conditions in order to reduce the post-stroke care dependency risk for women.

Differences in Use of High-quality and Low-quality Hospitals Among Working-age Individuals by Insurance Type
Background: Research suggests that individuals with Medicaid or no insurance receive fewer evidence-based treatments and have worse outcomes than those with private insurance for a broad range of conditions. These differences may be due to patients’ receiving care in hospitals of different quality.

Rheumatic Mitral Valve Disease Is Associated With Worse Outcomes in Stroke Clinical Sciences
We examined the association between RMVD and both serious and common cardiovascular and noncardiovascular (respiratory and infective) complications in a cohort of hospitalized stroke patients based in Thailand. Factors associated with in-hospital mortality were also explored. Data were obtained from a National Insurance Database. Ethnic Comparison of 30-Day Potentially Preventable Readmissions After Stroke in Hawaii Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—
In Hawaii, Chinese may have a higher risk of 30-day PPR after stroke compared with whites. However, this seems to be driven by the high number of repeated PPR within the Chinese ethnic group.

Development of a Mobile Tool That Semiautomatically Screens Patients for Stroke Clinical Trials Brief Reports

We created a semiautomated electronic screening tool that uses branch logic to screen patients for stroke clinical trials. The tool has improved efficiency and efficacy of screening, and it could be adapted for use at other sites and in other medical fields.

Validation of a Modified CHA2DS2-VASc Score for Stroke Risk Stratification in Asian Patients With Atrial Fibrillation: A Nationwide Cohort Study Clinical Sciences

In this Asian atrial fibrillation cohort, the mCHA2DS2-VASc score performed better than the CHA2DS2-VASc and would further identify atrial fibrillation patients who may derive a positive net clinical benefit from oral anticoagulation.

Japanese Multicenter Outcomes With the HeartMate II Left Ventricular Assist Device in Patients With Small Body Surface Area.
CONCLUSIONS: Results for HMII LVAD as BTT in the post-approval era showed excellent survival and functional capacity improvement. Of particular interest to the Japanese patient population are the excellent results in patients with small BSA.

Risk of stroke in first-ever acute urinary retention: A 10-year population-based study
Conclusion There was significant difference in the risk of stroke between patients with and without AUR. Preventive measures should be taken for patients with AUR, which may be associated with an increased risk of subsequent stroke. Large-scale population-based studies in other countries and regions are recommended.

Statin use after intracerebral hemorrhage: a 10 ‐year nationwide cohort study
ConclusionHydrophilic statin therapy is associated with a reduced risk of recurrent ICH in post‐ICH patients. The intensity of statin use had no significant effect on recurrent ICH or other components of the composite outcome.
