Association between stress hyperglycemia and outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion
CONCLUSION: Stress hyperglycemia ratio, as measured by the glucose/HbA1C, was associated with a decreased odds of achieving a favorable functional outcome in patients with acute large vessel occlusion stroke at 90 days.PMID:36914967 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14163

Treatment of fusiform aneurysms with a pipeline embolization device: a multicenter cohort study
Conclusion PEDs may be an effective treatment for intracranial fusiform aneurysms, with a favorable occlusion rate. However, because these treatments have a relatively high rate of complications, PED treatment for fusiform aneurysms should be carefully and strictly controlled. Our analysis showed that PEDs with adjunctive coiling did not significantly improve the occlusion rate of fusiform aneurysms.

Intravenous thrombolysis versus antiplatelet therapy in minor stroke patients with large vessel occlusion
CONCLUSION: In patients with minor stroke harboring LVO within 4.5-h time window, intravenous t-PA was associated with higher odds for the excellent functional outcome, as compared with the aspirin alone. Further randomized controlled trials are warranted.PMID:36880290 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14124

Antithrombotic therapy and bleeding risk in the era of aggressive lipid-lowering: current evidence, clinical implications, and future perspectives
Chin Med J (Engl). 2023 Feb 21. doi: 10.1097/CM9.0000000000002057. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe clinical efficacy of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 inhibitors (PCSK9i) in reducing major cardiovascular adverse events related to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) has been well established in recent large randomized outcome trials. Although the cardiovascular and all-cause mortality benefit of PCSK9i remains inconclusive, current cholesterol management guidelines have been modified toward more aggressive goals for lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). Consequently, the emerging ...

Ambient nitrogen dioxide and cardiovascular diseases in rural regions: a time-series analyses using data from the new rural cooperative medical scheme in Fuyang, East China
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Feb 21. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-25922-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMost of studies relating ambient nitrogen dioxide (NO2) exposure to hospital admissions for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) were conducted among urban population. Whether and to what extent these results could be generalizable to rural population remains unknown. We addressed this question using data from the New Rural Cooperative Medical Scheme (NRCMS) in Fuyang, Anhui, China. Daily hospital admissions for total CVDs, ischaemic heart disease, heart failure, heart rhythm disturbances, ischaemic stroke, and haemorrhagic st...

Low-dose vs. standard-dose alteplase for Chinese patients with acute ischemic stroke: A propensity score analysis
ConclusionsLow-dose alteplase was related to a poor functional outcome without lowering the risk of sICH, compared with standard-dose alteplase for AIS patients in China.

Alpha-Asarone Ameliorates Neurological Dysfunction of Subarachnoid Hemorrhagic Rats in Both Acute and Recovery Phases via Regulating the CaMKII-Dependent Pathways
AbstractEarly brain injury (EBI) is the leading cause of poor prognosis for patients suffering from subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), particularly learning and memory deficits in the repair phase. A recent report has involved calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) in the pathophysiological process underlying SAH-induced EBI. Alpha-asarone (ASA), a major compound isolated from the Chinese medicinal herbAcorus tatarinowii Schott, was proven to reduce secondary brain injury by decreasing CaMKII over-phosphorylation in rats ’ model of intracerebral hemorrhage in our previous report. However, the effect of ASA o...

Development and validation of a novel radiomics-clinical model for predicting post-stroke epilepsy after first-ever intracerebral haemorrhage
ConclusionsThe combined radiomics-clinical model was better able to predict ICH-associated PSE compared to the clinical model. This can help clinicians better predict an individual patient ’s risk of PSE following a first-ever ICH and facilitate earlier PSE diagnosis and treatment.Key Points•Radiomics has not been used in predicting the risk of developing PSE.•Higher Rad-scores were associated with higher risk of developing PSE.•The combined model showed better performance of PSE prediction ability.

General anesthesia vs. non-general anesthesia for vertebrobasilar stroke endovascular therapy
ConclusionsPatients placed under GA during EVT for VBAO appear to be as effective and safe as non-GA. Furthermore, GA might yield better successful reperfusion for worse presenting GCS score (≤8).RegistrationURL: http://www.chictr.org.cn/; Unique identifier: ChiCTR2000033211.
