Effectiveness of Tai Chi for health promotion for adults with health conditions: a scoping review of Meta-analyses.
Conclusions: Healthcare providers now have information to advise clients with health conditions on the effectiveness of Tai Chi for overall health promotion.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONTai Chi is a form of safe, enjoyable, light-to-moderate aerobic physical activity for adults that is inexpensive to implement in diverse community settings.Adults with health conditions require physical activity for prevention of secondary impairments and over-all health promotion. This scoping review of meta-analyses elucidates "high" and "moderate" quality evidence of the effectiveness of Tai Chi in improving important outcomes for peopl...

Nature-based rehabilitation to reduce post-stroke fatigue is not effective: A randomized controlled trial.
CONCLUSION: Nature-based rehabilitation is feasible and well tolerated. A larger randomized controlled trial is warranted. PMID: 32030432 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for management of post-stroke impairments: An overview of systematic reviews.
CONCLUSION: Despite widespread use of rTMS, high-quality evidence for its routine use for the treatment of stroke survivors is lacking. Further studies are required to establish differential roles of various protocols and long-term effects of rTMS in the stroke population. PMID: 31922207 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Behavioural activation treatment for depression in individuals with neurological conditions: a systematic review.
CONCLUSION: The effectiveness of behavioural activation in randomized controlled trials varied from small to large (d = 0.24-1.7) in reducing depression. The content of behavioural activation was comparable to established treatment manuals. Adaptations appeared to support individuals to engage in therapy. REVIEW REGISTRATION: PROSPERO 2018, CRD42018102604. PMID: 31875690 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Quality of life after stroke rehabilitation discharge: a 12-month longitudinal study.
Conclusions: Quality of life scores reported at the time of rehabilitation discharge are often not lasting. Including severely impaired patients via proxies reduces the risk of overestimating QoL outcomes. Outpatient's characteristics should be taken into account when planning therapy strategies to maintain previously achieved health goals. Regular re-assessments are required.Implications for rehabilitationThere should be an awareness that improvements in quality of life (QoL) achieved during rehabilitation are not sustainable.Regularly re-assessing pain status, psychological burden, and social network size could help clin...

Using telerehabilitation to improve cognitive function in post-stroke survivors: is this the time for the continuity of care?
Post-stroke cognitive disorders can affect different domains, depending on typology of stroke and lesion localization, onset time, age and diagnostic tools used. In recent years, telerehabilitation using virtual reality has been used to reduce the healthcare costs encouraging continuity of care. The aim of our study is to evaluate the efficacy of a virtual reality rehabilitation system in improving cognitive function in stroke survivors. Forty patients affected by stroke were enrolled in this study and randomized into either the control or the experimental groups in order of recruitment. The study lasted 6 months, and incl...

Video game-based and conventional therapies in patients of neurological deficits: an experimental study.
Conclusion: This study opens the way for future researchers, psychologists, physiotherapist and other practitioners to do more extensive work in the domain of virtual reality with different sample, constructs and approaches.Implications for rehabilitationIt has become increasing important to introduce new state-to-art technologies in domain of rehabilitation.People are reluctant to use all the traditional modes of treatment. As these conventional ways of treatment are least motivating and interesting to indulge the patients without force and burden. It is evident in the present study that addition of virtual reality-based ...

Family-Centered Care During Constraint-Induced Therapy After Chronic Stroke: A Feasibility Study.
CONCLUSION: These results provide initial evidence that CARE-CITE is feasible after chronic stroke and that CPs and stroke survivors may benefit from family-centered care. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Improving CP skills in supporting rehabilitation activities may improve stroke survivor upper extremity function. PMID: 31688561 [PubMed - in process]

Relationship between pre-stroke physical activity and symptoms of post-stroke anxiety and depression: An observational study.
CONCLUSION: In this group of patients with mild symptoms of emotional distress, it seems that pre-stroke physical activity might be protective against post-stroke depression, but not anxiety. Many patients with mild-to-moderate stroke report being equally active before and after the stroke. PMID: 31565752 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

GETCare: Development of a Comprehensive Education and Training Program For Care-Partners Post-Stroke
Stroke is the leading cause of long-term disability in the United States, with spousal partners often filling a significant role as caregivers after loved ones return home. Without adequate resources, this new role can lead to increased burden and depression for care-partners, and decreased rehabilitation effectiveness for stroke survivors. Research suggests the quality and amount of education provided to care-partners is severely lacking and there is need for improved services and resources. The purpose of this project was to conduct a needs assessment, create the GETCare program, and gather stakeholder feedback in prepar...
