How Menopause Affects Cholesterol —And How to Manage It
Kelly Officer, 49, eats a vegan diet and shuns most processed foods. So, after a recent routine blood test revealed that she had high cholesterol, “I was shocked and upset,” she says, “since it never has been [high] in the past.” Officer is not alone. As women enter menopause, cholestrol levels jump—by an average of 10-15%, or about 10 to 20 milligrams per deciliter. (A healthy adult cholesterol range is 125-200 milligrams per deciliter, according to the National Library of Medicine.) This change often goes unnoticed amidst physical symptoms and the general busyness of those years. But, says D...

Association of Arterial Spin Labeling Parameters With Cognitive Decline, Vascular Events, and Mortality in a Memory-Clinic Sample
CONCLUSIONS: Higher baseline GM-sCoV of ASL was associated with a decline in memory and risk of cerebrovascular disease and vascular events, suggesting that cerebrovascular insufficiency may contribute to accelerated cognitive decline and worse clinical outcomes in memory clinic participants.PMID:35871110 | DOI:10.1016/j.jagp.2022.06.007

Sensors, Vol. 22, Pages 4310: Cardiovascular Disease Diagnosis from DXA Scan and Retinal Images Using Deep Learning
In this study, we aimed at diagnosing CVD using a novel approach integrating information from retinal images and DXA data. We considered an adult Qatari cohort of 500 participants from Qatar Biobank (QBB) with an equal number of participants from the CVD and the control groups. We designed a case-control study with a novel multi-modal (combining data from multiple modalities—DXA and retinal images)—to propose a deep learning (DL)-based technique to distinguish the CVD group from the control group. Uni-modal models based on retinal images and DXA data achieved 75.6% and 77.4% accuracy, respective...

Relation of MRI Aortic Wall Area and Plaque to Incident Cardiovascular Events: The Framingham Heart Study
Conclusion In middle-aged community-dwelling adults, thoracic aortic wall area (AWA), plaque prevalence, and plaque volumes measured with MRI were independently associated with incident cardiovascular disease, with AWA associated in particular with stroke, and plaque associated with coronary heart disease. Clinical trial registration no. NCT00041418 © RSNA, 2022 Online supplemental material is available for this article. A Study of Srum Homocysteine Level in Ischaemic Stoke
CONCLUSION: The present study revealed that hyperhomocysteinemia appears to be an important risk factor for ischemic stroke. It is therefore important to use serum homocysteine as an important tool to investigate all cases of ischemic stroke and if serum homocysteine is elevated patient should be put on multivitamins containing vitamin B12, folic acid and pyridoxine to reduce serum homocysteine levels.PMID:35443421

Prognosis of patients assisted in the emergency unit by the 'TIA protocol' in a third-level hospital at 90 days
CONCLUSIONS: Rapid TIA protocols allow early care and avoid hospital admissions, without increasing the incidence of cardiovascular events or recurrence of stroke or TIA at 90 days.PMID:35148420 | DOI:10.33588/rn.7404.2021236
