IJERPH, Vol. 18, Pages 8058: Influence of Physical Activity and Socio-Economic Status on Depression and Anxiety Symptoms in Patients after Stroke
a-Ciałowicz Stroke is a high-risk factor for depression. Neurological rehabilitation is greatly difficult and often does not include treatment of depression. The post-stroke depression plays an important role in the progress of treatment, health, and the life of the patient. The appropriate treatment of depression could improve the quality of life of the patient and their family. The study aimed to evaluate the impact of physical activity and socio-economic status of the patient on the effectiveness of recovery from depression and the severity of the symptoms of depression. The study was conducted with 40 patients aft...

Effect of Virtual Reality Gait Training on Participation in Survivors of Subacute Stroke: Randomized Controlled Trial.
CONCLUSIONS: The effect of VRT was not statistically different from non-VRT in improving participation in community-living people after stroke. IMPACT: Although outcomes were not statistically different, treadmill-based VRT was a safe and well-tolerated intervention that was positively rated by people after stroke. VR training might, therefore, be a valuable addition to stroke rehabilitation. PMID: 33594443 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Modifiable Factors Associated With Poststroke Physical Activity at Discharge From Rehabilitation: Prospective Cohort Study.
CONCLUSION: The results demonstrated that better physical function at discharge from inpatient rehabilitation was associated with future increased levels of physical activity. Additionally, higher levels of motivation impacted on increased physical activity participation. The influence of anxiety on physical activity participation requires further exploration. Mixed-method study designs can be utilized to further understand the factors associated with post-stroke physical activity. PMID: 31995190 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation ASsociated With Physical-therapy In Acute Stroke Patients - the tDCS ASAP - a Randomized, Triple Blind, Sham-controlled Study
Conclusion: tDCS seems to be an effective adjuvant to conventional rehabilitation techniques. If applied in the acute stages of stroke, functional recovery is not only accelerated, but improved, and results are maintained up to one-year post stroke.

Ipsilateral eye closure and hemifacial weakness: Useful clinical clue to diagnose pseudostroke
A 16-year-old boy with anxiety was admitted for evaluation of acute-onset left face/hemibody numbness and weakness. Because of the possibility of an acute stroke, he was admitted to an outside hospital and underwent extensive investigations before transfer to our center. On examination, left hemifacial weakness was seen with pulling of the angle of the mouth to the right and left eye closure (video at Neurology.org/cp). CT head, CT perfusion, MRI, and magnetic resonance angiography of the brain did not show any evidence of ischemia or vasculopathy. EEG was normal. Symptoms resolved completely within several weeks with phys...

What 'Empire' Got Right (And Wrong) About Music Therapy
Perhaps one of the most stirring and sympathetic characters in Fox’s hit show “Empire" is Andre, who suffers from Bipolar disorder. In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past three months and haven’t watched the hottest TV show of 2015, here’s a quick recap of Andre’s situation: the oldest son of a music conglomerate CEO vies for power over the company he helped build, but between all the pressure (and betrayal, and violence, and lack of love and support), as well as his attempts to keep a lid on his emotions, Andre eventually flushes his meds down the toilet, precipitating a mental breakdown and entr...

Stroke Impact Scale Version 2: Validation of the French Version.
CONCLUSIONS: The French SIS version presents good psychometric properties, except for ceiling effect. This is the first stroke-specific questionnaire evaluating perceived health after stroke to be validated in France, and could be useful for further investigations of HRQoL after stroke. Influence of psychologic features on rehabilitation outcomes in patients with subacute stroke trained with robotic-aided walking therapy.
CONCLUSIONS: Psychologic features, particularly recovery locus of control and anxiety, affected the rehabilitative outcomes of the patients involved in robotic treatment more than those in conventional rehabilitation. PMID: 24052026 [PubMed - in process]
