Safe and effective thrombolysis in free flap salvage: Intra-arterial urokinase infusion
by Jun Hyeok Kim, Sungyeon Yoon, Heeyeon Kwon, Deuk Young Oh, Young-Joon Jun, Suk-Ho Moon Despite the high success rate in reconstruction using free tissue transfer, flap failure is often caused by microvascular thrombosis. In a small percentage of cases with complete flap loss, a salvage procedure is performed. In the present study, the effectiveness of intra-arterial urokinase infusi on through the free flap tissue was investigated to develop a protocol to prevent thrombotic failure. The retrospective study evaluated the medical records of patients who underwent salvage procedure with intra-arterial urokinase infusion a...

Causes of death of patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation in Asians
ConclusionDeath due to ischemic stroke was responsible for only 4.7% of all deaths in Asian AF patients. Non-CV death, such as infection/sepsis or malignancy, was more far more prevalent than CV death in Asian AF patients. An improved integrated care approach is needed to reduce the prevalence of non-CV death in Asian AF patients.

Prognostic impact of catheter ablation in patients with asymptomatic atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsIn the post-hoc analysis of the matched AF cohort, catheter ablation as compared with conservative management was associated with better long-term clinical outcomes among asymptomatic AF patients only when the previous AF-related complications were present.

Venous thromboembolism: Why is it still a significant health problem?
CONCLUSIONS: Understanding the interaction between environmental and genetic factors appears to be crucial in the diagnostic process. It can provide insight into the pathophysiology of VTE, potentially identifying options for targeted prevention and treatment. However, due to differences in clinical presentation, diagnosing pulmonary embolism may not be an easy task which perfectly illustrates the scale and complexity of the disease.PMID:36368288 | DOI:10.1016/j.advms.2022.10.002

Determinants for a low dose of alteplase and its relationship to a lower intracerebral bleeding risk in acute ischemic stroke
Conclusions: Patients with increasing age, a higher baseline systolic blood pressure, and previous ischemic stroke were at a higher odd of receiving a low-dose of alteplase. The low-dose was associated with a lower risk of developing symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage.PMID:36313231 | PMC:PMC9608043 | DOI:10.7150/ijms.76105
