Mortality risk after the first occurrence of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures in the general population: A nationwide cohort study
This study aimed to evaluate mortality risk after the first occurrence of OVCF in the general population using a nationwide dataset from the Korean National Health Insurance System. Sleep Duration and Chronic Disease Among Older Native Hawaiians or Other Pacific Islanders and Asians: Analysis of the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System
ConclusionsFindings suggest older NHOPIs with SS or LS experience worse health. NHOPIs and Asians varied on the relationship between sleep and chronic disease, underscoring the need to disaggregate Asian/NHOPI data to understand health disparities.

Quantifying COPD as a risk factor for cardiac disease in a primary prevention cohort
Conclusions
In a large real-world population without CVD, people with physician-diagnosed COPD were 25% more likely to have a major CVD event, after adjustment for CVD risk and other factors. This rate is comparable to the rate in people with diabetes and calls for more aggressive CVD primary prevention in the COPD population.

Clinical characteristics and predictors for in-hospital mortality in adult COVID-19 patients: A retrospective single center cohort study in Vilnius, Lithuania
ConclusionsAge, congestive heart failure, obesity, COPD, prior stroke, and increased concentration of urea, LDH, CRP, IL-6, troponin I, ALT to AST ratio were identified to be the predictors for in-hospital mortality of COVID-19 patients.

Environmental and occupational risk factors for COPD and its prevalence among miners worldwide: a Mendelian randomization and meta-analysis study
This study found that asthma, smoking, shift work, and workplace dust exposure may increase an individual's risk of COPD. The pooled prevalence of COPD among miners globally was 12% (95% CI: 8%, 18%), with higher prevalence of COPD among ex-smokers and dust-exposed individuals, and was significantly influenced by the method of diagnosis. Our findings suggest that there is currently a lack of practical criteria for diagnosing COPD in the physical examination and screening of miners.
