Multi-disciplinary Approach for Drug and Gene Delivery Systems to the Brain
AAPS PharmSciTech. 2021 Dec 3;23(1):11. doi: 10.1208/s12249-021-02144-1.ABSTRACTDrug delivery into the brain has for long been a huge challenge as the blood-brain barrier (BBB) offers great resistance to entry of foreign substances (with drugs inclusive) into the brain. This barrier in healthy individuals is protective to the brain, disallowing noxious substances present in the blood to get to the brain while allowing for the exchange of small molecules into the brain by diffusion. However, BBB is disrupted under certain disease conditions, such as cerebrovascular diseases including acute ischemic stroke and intracerebral ...

Disorder Genes Regulate the Progression of Ischemic Stroke through the NF- < em > κ < /em > B Signaling Pathway
Biomed Res Int. 2021 Oct 27;2021:2464269. doi: 10.1155/2021/2464269. eCollection 2021.ABSTRACTStroke is an acute cerebrovascular disease, including ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. Stroke is the second leading cause of death after ischemic heart disease, which accounts for 9% of the global death toll. To explore the molecular mechanisms of the effects of the dysregulated factors, in the GEO database, we obtained transcriptome data from 24 h/72 h of mice with ischemic stroke and 24 h/72 h of normal mice. We then performed differential gene analysis, coexpression analysis, enrichment analysis, and regulator prediction bioinf...

Post Stroke Hyperglycemia as a marker of Stroke Severity and Prognosis: A cohort study
ConclusionFrom our study we can conclude that diabetes mellitus as a risk factor in cases of stroke leads to increase complications and worsens the outcome in cases of stroke whether hemorrhagic or ischemic.RecommendationsFrom our study we recommended strict control of diabetes mellitus when present in cases of stroke to avoid bad outcome and to prevent complications in these cases.

Development of Biomembrane-mimetic Nanoparticles for the Treatment of Ischemic Stroke
Yakugaku Zasshi. 2021;141(9):1071-1078. doi: 10.1248/yakushi.21-00114.ABSTRACTIncrease in vascular permeability of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a distinct pathology following ischemic stroke. In previous studies, we demonstrated that liposomal drug delivery system (DDS)-based delivery of neuroprotectants is useful for treating cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. Additionally, our previous studies reported that combination therapy with liposomal fasudil plus tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA), a thrombolytic agent, brings about decrease in the risk of t-PA-derived cerebral hemorrhage and prolong the therapeutic time ...
