Task-specific training versus usual care to improve upper limb function after stroke: the “Task-AT Home” randomised controlled trial protocol
The objective is to determine whether task-specific training is a more effective treatment than usual care, for improving upper limb function, amount of upper limb use, and health related quality of life at 6 weeks and 6 months after intervention commencement. Factors associated with stroke after COVID-19 vaccination: a statewide analysis
ConclusionConcurrent COVID-19 infection had the strongest association with early ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke after the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination. Although not all determinants of stroke, particularly comorbidities, were considered in this analysis, the Ad26.COV2.S vaccine was associated with a higher risk of early post-vaccination ischemic stroke than BNT162b2.

Combining high dose therapy, bilateral motor priming, and vagus nerve stimulation to treat the hemiparetic upper limb in chronic stroke survivors: a perspective on enhancing recovery
Stroke is a leading cause of disability worldwide and upper limb hemiparesis is the most common post-stroke disability. Recent studies suggest that clinically significant motor recovery is possible in chronic stroke survivors with severe impairment of the upper limb. Three promising strategies that have been investigated are (1) high dose rehabilitation therapy (2) bilateral motor priming and (3) vagus nerve stimulation. We propose that the future of effective and efficient upper limb rehabilitation will likely require a combination of these approaches.

Efficacy and safety of acupuncture on sleep quality for post-stroke insomnia: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionAcupuncture could improve sleep quality, has long-term efficacy and without serious adverse events. However, the findings should be treated with caution owing to the existence of methodological quality issues. More studies with rigorous designs are warranted for validation and explored the safety of acupuncture.

Functional outcomes of ischemic stroke patients aged over 80 years treated with acute revascularization therapy according to pre-morbid disability: a PARADISE study
ConclusionAlthough a large proportion of older patients with a pre-existing disability had a poor functional outcome, they did not differ from their non-impaired counterparts regarding prognostic factors. This means that there were no factors in our study that would help clinicians identify patients at risk of poor functional outcomes after revascularization therapy among those with prior disability. Further studies are needed to better understand the post-stroke trajectory of older IS patients with a pre-morbid disability.

ConclusionVNS is an effective and safe treatment for upper extremity motor dysfunction after a stroke. For the functional restoration of the upper extremities, noninvasive integrated therapy and lower-frequency VNS may be more effective. OEDL: an optimized ensemble deep learning method for the prediction of acute ischemic stroke prognoses using union features
ConclusionThe OEDL approach proposed herein could effectively achieve improved stroke prognosis prediction performance, the effect of using combined data modeling was significantly better than that of single clinical or radiomics feature models, and the proposed method had a better intervention guidance value. Our approach is beneficial for optimizing the early clinical intervention process and providing the necessary clinical decision support for personalized treatment.

Sex differences in acute telestroke care: more to the story
ConclusionWhile treatment differences between sexes existed in the data and were apparent in univariate analysis, no significant difference was seen in multivariate analysis once stroke risk factors, age, NIHSS score and admitting diagnosis were taken into consideration in the telestroke setting. Differences in rates of thrombolysis between sexes may therefore be reflective of differences in risk factors and symptomatology rather than a healthcare disparity.

Benefits and risks of antiplatelet therapy for moyamoya disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionCurrent evidence showed that APT was associated with a reduced risk of hemorrhagic stroke in MMD patients but did not reduce the risk of ischemic stroke or increase the proportion of independent patients. There was insufficient evidence about the benefit of APT on survival and postoperative bypass patency after surgical revascularization.
