Disentangling the Psycholinguistic Loci of Anomia with Cognitive Psychometric Models
This article reviews advanced statistical techniques for measuring impairments in object naming, particularly in the context of stroke-induced aphasia. Traditional testing strategies can be challenged by the multifaceted nature of impairments that arise due to the complex relationships between localized brain damage and disruption to the cognitive processes required for successful object naming. Cognitive psychometric models can combine response-type analysis with item-response theory to yield accurate estimates of multiple abilities using data collected from a single task. The models also provide insights about how the te...

A journey through clinic and research
I started to study Medicine at the University of Genoa, Italy more than 20 years ago and I now realize that I was quite far from understanding what ‘Medicine’ really means. After weeks and weeks spent on books during the first year, I understood that becoming a MD not only requires the willingness to help people with health problems, but also strong motivation and dedication to learn a huge amount of notions. In Italy, as it is the case for several other countries, the University courses last 6 years, during which the MD student is fully engaged by individual study, lessons and seminars, exercises, and internships. Telestroke Consultation in the Emergency Medical Services Unit: A Novel Approach to Improve Thrombolysis Times
Faster treatment times are associated with improved outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke. In this prospective pilot study, we assess the feasibility of initiating telestroke consultation in emergency medical services unit (TEMS).

Benchmarking network-based gene prioritization methods for cerebral small vessel disease
In conclusion, RWRH has overall better performance for application in cSVD despite its susceptibility to bias caused by degree centrality. Choice of algorithms should be determined before applying to specific disease. Current pure network-based gene prioritization algorithms are unlikely to find novel disease-associated genes that are not associated with known ones. The tools for implementing and benchmarking algorithms have been made available and can be generalized for other diseases.PMID:33634312 | DOI:10.1093/bib/bbab006
