Occurrence, Source and Dietary Exposure of Toxic and Essential Elements in the Indian Food Basket
In this study, representative urban and peri-urban Indian food baskets have been studied for the presence of toxic and essential elements. The concentration of target toxic and essential elements was used to estimate dietary intakes (EDIs) and health risks. Across all food matrices, toxic elements like Cd and Pb were dominant. The highest concentrations of the target elements were found in vegetables, with Cd, Pb, and Ni being beyond permissible limits of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Health organization (0.05 mg/kg, 0.1 mg/kg, and 1.5 mg/kg, respectively) in okra, spinach, and c...

Salivary Gland-like Tumors of the Breast
CONCLUSIONS: Breast tumors that exhibit morphologic overlap with salivary gland tumors have been recognized by pathologists for decades, but the similarities and differences in their molecular pathogenesis have not been understood until more recently. These developments have led to novel diagnostic tools and further knowledge of these rare breast lesions.PMID:37651394 | DOI:10.5858/arpa.2023-0038-RA

Insecticidal activity and physiopathological effects of Cotula cinerea crude extract against Culex pipiens
Trop Biomed. 2023 Jun 1;40(2):241-249. doi: 10.47665/tb.40.2.016.ABSTRACTThe development of new alternatives strategies to synthetic insecticides aimed at reducing pest populations by developing pesticides based on plant extracts without negative effects in non target organisms and environment. The present study was undertaken in order to assess the insecticidal activity of the crude methanolic extract of the Algerian Asteraceae Cotula cinerea, against the larval and the pupal stage of Culex pipiens (Diptera: Culicidae). It is also to determine the chemical composition of the used extract, and to understand the mechanism o...

A sweet emergency due to bitter poisoning-A case report
We present a case of a 22-year-old male patient, without previous history of diabetes, who was brought to the ER in an unresponsive state with an HbA1c of 5%. His initial laboratory investigations revealed hyperglycemia, high anion gap metabolic acidosis, ketonuria, and glycosuria. His relatives revealed intentional ingestion of OPC. He was treated for both OPC poisoning and hyperglycemic ketoacidosis. Adequate acute care was instigated though prognosis could not be gauged due to the early discharge of the patient against medical advice. This case highlights that OPC poisoning can be a possible etiological factor for hyper...
