Tenascins and osteopontin in biological response in cornea
Ocul Surf. 2023 May 18;29:131-149. doi: 10.1016/j.jtos.2023.05.005. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe structural composition, integrity and regular curvature of the cornea contribute to the maintenance of its transparency and vision. Disruption of its integrity caused by injury results in scarring, inflammation and neovascularization followed by losses in transparency. These sight compromising effects is caused by dysfunctional corneal resident cell responses induced by the wound healing process. Upregulation of growth factors/cytokines and neuropeptides affect development of aberrant behavior. These factors trigger kerato...

Mortality by age, gene and gender in carriers of pathogenic mismatch repair gene variants receiving surveillance for early cancer diagnosis and treatment: a report from the prospective Lynch syndrome database
EClinicalMedicine. 2023 Mar 20;58:101909. doi: 10.1016/j.eclinm.2023.101909. eCollection 2023 Apr.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: The Prospective Lynch Syndrome Database (PLSD) collates information on carriers of pathogenic or likely pathogenic MMR variants (path_MMR) who are receiving medical follow-up, including colonoscopy surveillance, which aims to the achieve early diagnosis and treatment of cancers. Here we use the most recent PLSD cohort that is larger and has wider geographical representation than previous versions, allowing us to present mortality as an outcome, and median ages at cancer diagnoses for the first time.METHODS:...

P19-derived neuronal cells express H < sub > 1 < /sub > , H < sub > 2 < /sub > , and H < sub > 3 < /sub > histamine receptors: a biopharmaceutical approach to evaluate antihistamine agents
This report aimed to characterize the response of neurons differentiated from mouse P19 embryonal carcinoma cells to histamine treatment, and to investigate the modulation of this response by antihistamine drugs, vegetal diamine oxidase, and catalase. The exposure of P19 neurons to histamine reduced cell viability to 65% maximally. This effect involves specific histamine receptors, since it was prevented by treatment with desloratadine and cimetidine, respectively, H1 and H2 antagonists, but not by the H3 antagonist ciproxifan. RT-PCR analysis showed that P19 neurons express H1 and H2 receptors, and the H3 receptor, althou...

Check Out These Public Federal Funding Databases to Learn More About Funding at NIH and Other Federal Agencies
We often recommend NIH RePORT (Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tools) site to applicants & awardees because it publicly provides reports, data, and analyses of NIH research activities, including information on NIH expenditures and the results of NIH-supported research. The RePORT suite includes: NIH RePORTER (RePORT Expenditures and Results) allows users to search for funded projects, investigators, publications, and patents (see this NIH Open Mike blog for more). REPORTER also includes information on research projects funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Food and Drug Administration, Agenc...

Contractile and expansive actin networks in Drosophila: Developmental cell biology controlled by network polarization and higher-order interactions
Curr Top Dev Biol. 2023;154:99-129. doi: 10.1016/bs.ctdb.2023.02.005. Epub 2023 Mar 14.ABSTRACTActin networks are central to shaping and moving cells during animal development. Various spatial cues activate conserved signal transduction pathways to polarize actin network assembly at sub-cellular locations and to elicit specific physical changes. Actomyosin networks contract and Arp2/3 networks expand, and to affect whole cells and tissues they do so within higher-order systems. At the scale of tissues, actomyosin networks of epithelial cells can be coupled via adherens junctions to form supracellular networks. Arp2/3 netwo...
