Ribosomal Protein S3 Gene Silencing Protects Against Experimental Allergic Asthma
Conclusions and ImplicationsWe reported here that RPS3 gene silencing ameliorated experimental asthma probably via interruption of the NF‐κB activity, postulating that RPS3 is a novel therapeutic target for allergic airway inflammation.

δ‐Opioid Receptors Up‐regulate Excitatory Amino Acid Transporters in Mouse Astrocytes
Conclusions and ImplicationsDOR activation upregulates astrocytic EAATs via MEK‐ERK‐p38 signaling, suggesting a critical role of DOR in the regulation of astrocytic EAATs and neuroprotection against excitotoxic injury. Since decreased EAAT expression contributes to pathophysiology in many neurological diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, our findings present a new platform for potential treatments of these diseases.

GPR35 mediates lodoxamide ‐induced migration inhibitory response but not CXCL17‐induced migration stimulatory response in THP‐1 cells; Is GPR35 a receptor for CXCL17?
Abstract GPR35 has long been considered an orphan G protein‐couple receptor, and although no endogenous ligand of GPR35 has been discovered, synthetic agonists and antagonists have been developed. CXCL17 (a chemokine) has been reported to be an endogenous ligand of GPR35, and it has even been suggested that it be called CXCR8 (Journal of Immunology 2015; 194:29‐33). However, no supporting report on the CXCL17‐GPR35 relation has been issued since, although GPR35 is supposed to be a potential therapeutic target in several pathologic conditions. In the present study, we applied two assay systems to explore the relations...

Sulforaphane protects against ethanol‐induced oxidative stress and apoptosis in neural crest cells by the induction of Nrf2‐mediated antioxidant response
Conclusions and implicationsThese results demonstrated that Nrf2‐mediated antioxidant response plays an important role in the susceptibility of NCCs to ethanol‐induced oxidative stress and apoptosis and that the protection of SFN against ethanol‐induced oxidative stress and apoptosis in NCCs is mediated by the induction of Nrf2 signaling.

Metformin induces PGC‐1α expression and selectively affects hepatic PGC‐1α functions
Conclusions and ImplicationsDownregulation of PGC‐1α is not necessary for suppression of gluconeogenic genes by metformin. Importantly, metformin selectively regulates hepatic PGC‐1α‐mediated gene regulation and prevents activation of gluconeogenesis, but leaves regulation of mitochondrial genes intact. Our results thus identify selective modulation of hepatic PGC‐1α functions as a novel mechanism involved in the therapeutic action of metformin.

A metabolite of Danshen formulae attenuates cardiac fibrosis induced by isoprenaline, via a NOX2/ROS/p38 pathway
Conclusions and ImplicationsIDHP attenuated the cardiac fibrosis induced by isoprenaline through a NOX2/ROS/p38 pathway. These novel findings suggest that IDHP is a potential pharmacological candidate for the treatment of cardiac fibrosis, induced by β‐adrenoceptor agonists.

All‐trans retinoic acid protects against doxorubicin‐induced cardiotoxicity by activating the Erk2 signalling pathway
CONCLUSION AND IMPLICATIONATRA protected cardiomyocytes against doxorubicin‐induced toxicity by activating the Erk2 pathway without compromising the anticancer efficacy of doxorubicin. Therefore, ATRA may be a promising candidate as a cardioprotective agent against doxorubicin cardiotoxicity.

Inhibition of Phosphoinositide 3‐Kinase (PI3K) promotes dilation of human small airways in a Rho kinase‐dependent manner
Asthma manifests as a heterogeneous syndrome characterized by airway obstruction, inflammation and hyperresponsiveness (AHR). Although the molecular mechanisms remain unclear, activation of specific phosphoinositide 3‐kinase (PI3K) isoforms mediate inflammation and AHR (Lee et al., 2006; Nashed et al., 2007; Ali et al., 2008; Takeda et al., 2009). We aimed to determine whether inhibition of PI3Kδ evokes dilation of airways, and to elucidate potential mechanisms. Human precision cut lung slices (hPCLS) from non‐asthma donors, and primary human airway smooth muscle cells (HASM) from both non‐asthma and asthma donors, ...

Adenosine A2A Receptor Promotes Collagen Type III Synthesis Via β‐Catenin Activation in Human Dermal Fibroblasts

G α12 Facilitates Carbachol‐Induced Shortening in Human Airway Smooth Muscle By Modulating Phosphoinositide 3‐Kinase‐Mediated Activation In A RhoA‐Dependent Manner
CONCLUSION AND IMPLICATIONSGα12 plays a crucial role in HASMC contraction via RhoA‐dependent activation of the PI3K/ROCK axis. Inhibition of RhoA activation induces bronchodilation in hPCLS, and targeting Gα12 signaling may elucidate novel therapeutic targets in asthma. Taken together, these findings provide alternative approaches to the clinical management of airway obstruction in asthma.
