Cult Health Sex. 2023 Sep 14:1-16. doi: 10.1080/13691058.2023.2256833. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMany members of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse, and queer (LGBTQ) communities provide informal mental health support to peers. This type of support is valuable for people who receive it - even helping to prevent suicide. It is also meaningful to those who provide it. In this article, we focus on how LGBTQ people derive meaning from their experiences of supporting peers. In-depth interviews with 25 LGBTQ people in Melbourne, Australia, indicate that those providing informal mental health support to fellow c...

Establishing a health-based recommended occupational exposure limit for isoflurane using experimental animal data: a systematic review protocol
DiscussionIncluded studies should be sufficiently sensitive to detect the adverse health outcomes of interest. Uncertainties in the extrapolation from animals to humans will be addressed using assessment factor. These factors are justified in accordance with current practice in chemical risk assessment. A panel of experts will be involved to reach consensus decisions regarding significant steps in this project, such as determination of the critical effects and how to extrapolate from animals to humans.Systematic review registrationPROSPERO CRD42022308978

Increasing the efficiency of study selection for systematic reviews using prioritization tools and a single-screening approach
ConclusionsEPPI Reviewer helped to identify relevant citations earlier in the screening process than Rayyan. Single screening would have been sufficient to identify all studies relevant to the HTA conclusion. However, this requires screening of further information sources. It also needs to be considered that the credibility of an HTA may be questioned if studies are missing, even if they are not relevant to the HTA conclusion.

Scoping review of practice-focused resources to support the implementation of place-based approaches
CONCLUSIONS: Based on findings, we recommend that: (1) the development of resources to support evidence-informed practice and governance be prioritised; (2) resources clearly state their target audience and tailor communication to this audience; (3) resources draw on evidence from a range of sources; (4) resources continue to include practical implementation strategies supported by examples and (5) resource content be adaptable to different contexts (e.g., different settings and/or target populations). Googling long-acting reversible contraception: A scoping review examining the information available online about intrauterine devices and contraceptive implants
CONCLUSIONS: Most webpages provided medically accurate information to consumers; however, many did not include key information such as cost or how they work. Descriptions of side effects varied between webpages, and this may inhibit informed decision-making. SO WHAT?: Most people make decisions about what contraceptive method they might like to use before visiting a health care provider, and most will get this information from the internet. Providing comprehensive, medically accurate and consistent information about both IUDs and contraceptive implants is vital to support informed decision-making.PMID:37700511 | DOI:10.1002/hpja.806
