High-degree and broad-spectrum resistance mediated by a combination of NIb siRNA and miRNA suppresses replication of necrotic and common strains of potato virus Y
In this study, we designed specific siRNAs and miRNAs to target two regions of the PVYO replicase gene (NIb). Eight plant expression vectors containing one or two sRNAs were constructed. Luciferase activity assays showed that the designed sRNAs successfully cleaved theNIb gene of PVYO and PVYN, and the vector carrying a combined siRNA- and miRNA-based short hairpin RNA (shRNA) demonstrated the strongest inhibitory effect. These effects were confirmed through the acquisition of PVYO and PVYN resistance in transgenic sRNA-expressingNicotiana tabacum plants. This phenomenon could be related to a plant defense mechanism in whi...

GSE100589 Gene expression profiling of SAS cell line transfected with siRNA targeting CYLD
Contributors : Satoru Shinriki ; Hirofumi JonoSeries Type : Expression profiling by arrayOrganism : Homo sapiensOral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) has a very poor prognosis due to its highly invasive nature, and 5-year survival rate has not changed apparently for the past 30 years. Although cylindromatosis (CYLD) is thought as a potent tumor suppressor, its biological and clinical significances in OSCC are largely unknown. The aim of this study was to clarify roles of CYLD in OSCC progression. Our immunohistochemical analyses revealed that CYLD expression was significantly reduced at invasive lesions in OSCC tissues where...

Salespeople knowledge search behavior and sales performance: An investigation of printing equipment industry
This study investigates whether and how two learning styles – deep and surface – and two knowledge structures – vertical and horizontal – in respect of salespeople searching behavior in an inter-organizational information system lead to higher performance outcomes in printing equipment industry. We use a unique longitudinal dataset composed of 21,256 online search logs created by 408 salespeople and quarterly sales performance across 21 European countries from 2009 to 2013. The results show that salespeople must conduct a deep search to build rich product knowledge rather than surface search. Furthermore, instead o...

Metacognitive computations for information search: Confidence in control.
Psychological Review, Vol 130(3), Apr 2023, 604-639; doi:10.1037/rev0000401The metacognitive sense of confidence can play a critical role in regulating decision making. In particular, a lack of confidence can justify the explicit, potentially costly, instrumental acquisition of extra information that might resolve uncertainty. Human confidence is highly complex, and recent computational work has suggested a statistically sophisticated tapestry behind the information that governs both the making and monitoring of choices. However, the consequences of the form of such confidence computations for search have yet to be underst...

Changes in Search Path Complexity and Length During Learning of a Virtual Water Maze: Age Differences and Differential Associations with Hippocampal Subfield Volumes
In this study, we examined the association between volume of hippocampal subfields and age differences in virtual spatial navigation. In a sample of 65 healthy adults (age 19–75 years), advanced age was associated with a slower rate of improvement operationalized as shortening of the search path over 25 learning trials on a virtual Morris water maze task. The deficits were partially explained by greater complexity of older adults' search paths. Larger subiculum and entorhinal cortex volumes were associated with a faster decrease in search path complexity, which in turn explained faster shortening of search distance. ...

Habitual attention in older and young adults.
Age-related decline is pervasive in tasks that require explicit learning and memory, but such reduced function is not universally observed in tasks involving incidental learning. It is unknown if habitual attention, involving incidental probabilistic learning, is preserved in older adults. Previous research on habitual attention investigated contextual cuing in young and older adults, yet contextual cuing relies not only on spatial attention but also on context processing. Here we isolated habitual attention from context processing in young and older adults. Using a challenging visual search task in which the probability o...

Concept for automated computer-aided identification and evaluation of potentially non-compliant food products traded via electronic commerce
Publication date: March 2016 Source:Food Control, Volume 61 Author(s): Alexandra Krewinkel, Sebastian Sünkler, Dirk Lewandowski, Niklas Finck, Boris Tolg, Lothar W. Kroh, Georg A. Schreiber, Jan Fritsche The online marketplace for food products is continually expanding and all types of food and beverages can now be purchased over the internet. It is primarily the responsibility of the food business operator to ensure compliance with food safety law. However, the competent authorities are tasked with controlling the e-food sector as part of their regulatory duties to protect consumer health and to prevent fraud, ...

Sensors, Vol. 18, Pages 1189: Edge-Based Efficient Search over Encrypted Data Mobile Cloud Storage
ming Zhao Smart sensor-equipped mobile devices sense, collect, and process data generated by the edge network to achieve intelligent control, but such mobile devices usually have limited storage and computing resources. Mobile cloud storage provides a promising solution owing to its rich storage resources, great accessibility, and low cost. But it also brings a risk of information leakage. The encryption of sensitive data is the basic step to resist the risk. However, deploying a high complexity encryption and decryption algorithm on mobile devices will greatly increase the burden of terminal operation and the difficul...

Using guided inquiry and the information search process to develop research confidence among first year anatomy students
This article thoroughly describes the conceptualization, creation, improvement, implementation, and assessment of the projects beginning with version one, the Student Inquiry Projects. Following a pilot of the Student Inquiry Projects various evidence‐based improvements resulted in the final project version called the Inquiry Guided Learning Projects (IGLPs). A full assessment of the IGLPs revealed that students' self‐perceived confidence improved for all tested research skills including: research question development, research question selection, exploration of peer‐review literature, acquisition of resources, effec...
