The outstanding diversity of rhizobia microsymbionts of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in Mato Grosso do Sul, central-western Brazil, revealing new Rhizobium species
Arch Microbiol. 2023 Sep 2;205(9):325. doi: 10.1007/s00203-023-03667-w.ABSTRACTCommon bean is considered a legume of great socioeconomic importance, capable of establishing symbioses with a wide variety of rhizobial species. However, the legume has also been recognized for its low efficiency in fixing atmospheric nitrogen. Brazil is a hotspot of biodiversity, and in a previous study, we identified 13 strains isolated from common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) nodules in three biomes of Mato Grosso do Sul state, central-western Brazil, that might represent new phylogenetic groups, deserving further polyphasic characterization. T...

Epidemiological analysis over two years of SARS-CoV-2 circulation in southern Brazil: old and novel predictors of COVID-19 outcome
In conclusion, our results contribute to current knowledge by demonstrating that factors described at different times remain associated with COVID-19 over the pandemic and by identifying novel predictors of COVID-19 outcome.PMID:37659686 | DOI:10.1016/j.actatropica.2023.107007

Biosimilars approvals by thirteen regulatory authorities: A cross-national comparison
This study aims to present an overview of biosimilars approval by thirteen regulatory authorities (RA). The study is a cross-national comparison of regulatory decisions involving biosimilars in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Canada, Colombia, Europe, Hungary, Guatemala, Italy, Mexico, Peru and United States. We examined publicly available documents containing information regarding the approval of biosimilars and investigated the publication of public assessment reports for registration applications, guidelines for biosimilars licensing, and products approved. Data extraction was conducted by a network of researchers ...

Scorpion envenomation in the neotropical savannah: Environmental predictors and years of lost life
This study aimed to investigate the potential predictors of scorpion sting incidence and evaluate the cost-effectiveness of interventions in Minas Gerais. Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE) models were constructed using socioeconomic and environmental variables as predictors and scorpion sting incidence as the response variable. The analysis revealed that mean annual temperature and major land use type were significant predictors of scorpion sting incidence, while precipitation and socioeconomic variables showed no relationship with incidence. The total number of cases and annual incidence of scorpion stings overlapped...
