Immunogenicity and safety of Mebella ™ vaccine developed by Human Biologicals Institute in a Phase II/III, randomized, multicentric, non-inferiority study
CONCLUSION: It was concluded from the study results that the test vaccine, Mebella™, was immunogenic and well tolerated and was non-inferior to the comparator vaccine, MR-VAC®, when administered to healthy subjects of 9 months to 49 years of age. Vaccination Is the Best Bet Against Drug-Resistant Superbugs — Experts
Experts encourage parents to vaccinate their children against typhoid to ensure that the child has access to clean drinking water. Credit: Zofeen Ebrahim/IPS By Zofeen EbrahimKARACHI, Jul 6 2023 (IPS) The first thing you notice about eight-month-old Manahil Zeeshan is how tiny she looks on the adult-size hospital bed at the government-run Sindh Institute of Child Health and Neonatology (SICHN) in Korangi, a neighbourhood in Karachi. Her right foot is taped with a cannula, and she whimpers incessantly. “I have been in and out of the hospital for the last seven days,” said Uzma Mohammad, Zeeshan’s mom, with worry lines...

Stories to Take the Edge Off Pain During Immunization for Preschoolers: A Randomized Controlled Trial
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: A pictorial story is a simple and cost-effective intervention to reduce pain perception among children. What This Article Adds: Pictorial stories may be a feasible, simple, and cost-effective intervention to reduce pain perception during immunization.PMID:37326569 | DOI:10.5014/ajot.2023.050086

News at a glance: U.S. rules on carbon emissions, better vehicle batteries, and a Mars moon ’s close-up
PLANETARY SCIENCE Mars’s moon may be its kin Researchers have long believed that Mars’s two moons, Deimos and Phobos, are captured asteroids. But the first close-up images of Deimos, taken by the United Arab Emirates’s $200 million Hope spacecraft, suggest the 12-kilometer-wide body instead formed from the same material as Mars, researchers revealed this week at the annual meeting of the European Geosciences Union. The imagery, taken during a 10 March flyby, indicates that Deimos’s surface is covered by volcanic basalts like those on Mars, with no signs of the carbon-rich rock more often found on ast...

Measles, mumps, and rubella revaccination in children after completion of chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: a single-center prospective efficacy and safety analysis
CONCLUSIONS: MMR revaccination is immunogenic for the population. We suggest periodic monitoring of antibody titers, in addition to a booster vaccination, although the optimal timing of booster vaccination remains to be investigated further.PMID:37087716 | DOI:10.1007/s12519-023-00721-x

Myocarditis update from Sweden
BY ANISH KOKA The COVID19/vaccine myocarditis debate continues in large part because our public health institutions are grossly mischaracterizing the risks and benefits of vaccines to young people. A snapshot of what the establishment says as it relates to the particular area of concern: college vaccine mandates: Dr. Arthur Reingold, an epidemiology professor at UC-Berkeley, notes that UC also requires immunizations for measles and chickenpox, and people still are dying from COVID at rates that exceed those for influenza. As of Feb. 1, there were more than 400 COVID deaths a day across the U.S. “The arg...

Study protocol for a phase 1/2, single-centre, double-blind, double-dummy, randomized, active-controlled, age de-escalation trial to assess the safety, tolerability and immunogenicity of a measles and rubella vaccine delivered by a microneedle patch in healthy adults (18 to 40 years), measles and rubella vaccine-primed toddlers (15 to 18 months) and measles and rubella vaccine-na ïve infants (9 to 10 months) in The Gambia Measles and Rubella Vaccine Microneedle Patch Phase 1/2 Age De-escalation Trial
DiscussionThis trial will provide the first clinical data on the use of a MNP to deliver the MRV and the first data on the use of MNPs in a paediatric population. It will guide future product development decisions for what may be a key technology for future measles and rubella elimination.Trial registrationPan-African Clinical Trials Registry202008836432905.ClinicalTrials.govNCT04394689

Presternal swelling: remember mumps
A 14-year-old boy presented with a 4-day history of worsening painful facial swelling and presternal pain. He was afebrile, had bilateral parotid enlargement highly suggestive of mumps, but with diffuse non-erythematous swelling over the upper sternum, exquisitely tender to palpation (figure 1). He had received the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR)vaccine at 1 and 6 years of age. Subsequently, he developed vomiting and epigastric pain, radiological evidence of pancreatitis and a left orchitis. The presternal swelling subsided within 24 hours and his symptoms resolved conservatively over 5 days. Mumps IgM and IgG were initia...
