My Children are Vaccine-Damaged; are Yours?
Conclusion A growing number of today’s children suffer from vaccine damage. Most individuals do not make the connection between health problems and vaccines. When asked about the cause of autoimmune disorders, asthma, allergies, diabetes, learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder, autism, and other common childhood diseases and illness, the majority of health care providers advise patients that the causes are unknown. Doctors, including most integrative physicians, fail to make the connection to vaccines. It takes one moment to permanently damage the health of an adult or child, but takes a lifetime to t...

Have you heard of henoch-schonlein purpura?
I sure don’t remember this condition in nursing school! Henoch-Schonlein Purpura (HSP) is a disease involving inflammation of small blood vessels. It most commonly occurs in children. The inflammation causes blood vessels in the skin, intestines, kidneys and joints to start leaking. The main symptom is a rash with numerous small bruises, which have a raised appearance over the legs or buttocks. Although HSP can affect people at any age, most cases occur in children between the ages of 2 and 11. It is more common in boys than girls. Adults with HSP are more likely to have more severe disease compared to children. HSP usua...

Many Americans Don't Get Recommended Vaccines Before Travel
Americans who travel abroad often do not receive the recommended vaccines that would protect them from certain illnesses, new research suggests. One study of Americans visiting travel clinics found that more than half of those who were recommended to get a measles vaccination did not do so before traveling. Another study found that more than two dozen Americans were sickened with hepatitis A while visiting a resort town in Mexico in early 2015. Although the hepatitis A vaccine is recommended for people going to Mexico, none of the people who got sick in this recent outbreak were vaccinated before traveling. "Amer...

Perspective Yeast cell factories on the horizon
For thousands of years, yeast has been used for making beer, bread, and wine. In modern times, it has become a commercial workhorse for producing fuels, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals such as insulin, human serum albumin, and vaccines against hepatitis virus and human papillomavirus. Yeast has also been engineered to make chemicals at industrial scale (e.g., succinic acid, lactic acid, resveratrol) and advanced biofuels (e.g., isobutanol) (1). On page 1095 of this issue, Galanie et al. (2) demonstrate that yeast can now be engineered to produce opioids (2), a major class of compounds used for treating severe pain. Their st...

The effect of the facilitated tucking position in reducing vaccination-induced pain in newborns
This study was conducted to evaluate the pain perceptions of newborns during the hepatitis B (HBV) vaccinations performed in the facilitated tucking position and the classical holding position, respectively. Methods: The randomized controlled experimental study was conducted between 1 September 2014 and 30 December 2014 at the neonatal intensive care unit of a Turkish university hospital. One group of infants was held in the facilitated tucking position (the treatment group; n = 30) during HBV vaccination; infants in the other group were held in the classical holding position (the control group; n = 30) during HBV ...

7 Numbers That Show The Fight Against Hepatitis Is Far From Over
July 28 is World Hepatitis Day, a sorely-needed awareness campaign for diseases that affect more than 400 million people alive today. In the U.S., more people die from hepatitis C than they do from HIV/AIDS. And despite being preventable with vaccine, hepatitis B causes an estimated 1 million deaths every year and is the leading cause of liver cancer worldwide. Despite these shocking numbers, the virus is little understood and discussed, and that’s got to change, according to Dr. H. Nina Kim, director of the Madison HIV/Hepatitis Coinfection Clinic in Washington. “In some ways, the HIV epidemic is tie...

Sugar and warmth additively decrease pain in newborns getting vaccines
Commentary on: Gray L, Garza E, Zageris D, et al. Sucrose and warmth for analgesia in healthy newborns: an RCT. Pediatrics 2015;135:e607–14. Context Sucrose as an analgesic has been well studied in the newborn and infant population undergoing brief noxious stimuli such as vaccines or heel sticks.1 Providing additional, non-pharmacological, therapeutic options to create a synergy with the sucrose has been considered in other studies.2 Breast feeding, which supplies the sweetness of sugar (breast milk) and skin-to-skin contact, has been thought to provide radiant body heat.3 4 The authors of this study draw on their pr...

How Effective is Inactivated Hepatitis A Vaccine?
Discussion In 1997, 150 cases of Hepatitis A (HAV) were reported in Michigan from contaminated strawberries. The strawberries were produced in Mexico and distributed to the US Department of Agriculture sponsored school lunch programs in six states. Most of the containers were not served to students and the majority of cases occurred in Michigan only. HAV is an RNA virus of the picornavirus family. The virus is spread mainly by fecal-oral contamination and contaminated food and water supplies. The incubation period is 15 to 50 days. The average is 28 days. Patients are most infectious during the one to two weeks before ons...

Efficacy of antigen dosage on the hepatitis B vaccine response in infants born to hepatitis B-uninfected and hepatitis B-infected mothers.
CONCLUSIONS: Both dosages of the HB vaccine were well tolerated and elicited a good immune response in infants of Group A, regardless of the maternal anti-HBs serostatus. EVE did not significantly differ between Groups B and C. Clinicaltrails.gov identifier: NCT02152709. PMID: 26144895 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
