Implication of nutritional status for adverse outcomes after surgery for metastatic spine tumors
CONCLUSIONS: The PNI was most predictive of complications and may be a key biomarker for risk stratification in the 90 days following surgery. Nutrition consultation was associated with a reduced risk of wound-related complications, attesting to the importance of this preoperative intervention. These findings suggest that nutrition plays an important role in the postsurgical course and should be considered when developing a treatment plan for spinal metastases.PMID:37439458 | DOI:10.3171/2023.5.SPINE2367

Nutritional Risks in Patients Undergoing Total Pancreatectomy Islet AutoTransplantation in the POST Consortium
ConclusionsPrevalence of fat-soluble vitamin deficiencies increased after TPIAT, especially if underweight. We strongly advocate that all TPIAT recipients have close post-operative nutritional monitoring, including vitamin levels. Pancreatic MVIs should be given to minimize risk of developing deficiencies.

Machine learning ‐based identification and related features of depression in patients with diabetes mellitus based on the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey: A cross-sectional study
by Ji-Yoon Lee, Doyeon Won, Kiheon Lee Patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) are twice as likely as nondiabetic individuals to develop depression, which is a prevalent but often undiagnosed psychiatric comorbidity. Patients with DM who are depressed have poor glycemic control, worse quality of life, increased risk of diabetic complicati ons, and higher mortality rate. The present study aimed to develop machine learning (ML) models that identify depression in patients with DM, determine the best performing model by evaluating multiple ML algorithms, and investigate features related to depression. We developed six ML models,...

The PRO-RCC study: a long-term PROspective Renal Cell Carcinoma cohort in the Netherlands, providing an infrastructure for 'Trial within Cohorts' study designs
DISCUSSION: PRO-RCC is a nationwide long-term cohort for the collection of real-world clinical data, PROMS and PREMS. By facilitating an infrastructure for the collection of prospective data on RCC, PRO-RCC will contribute to observational research in a real-world study population and prove effectiveness in daily clinical practice. The infrastructure of this cohort also enables that interventional studies can be conducted with the TwiCs design, without the disadvantages of classic RCTs such as slow patient accrual and risk of dropping out after randomization.PMID:37434119 | PMC:PMC10337109 | DOI:10.1186/s12885-023-11094-9

Perioperative nutritional risk and its influencing factors in patients with oral cancer: a longitudinal study
CONCLUSION: The incidence of nutritional risk in patients with perioperative oral cancer was high, and the trajectory of nutritional risk changed over time. Strengthening the nutritional monitoring and management of postoperative patients or those with low education level, advanced-stage cancer, flap repair, tracheotomy, and low body mass index; strengthening tobacco control management; and controlling nutrition-related discomfort symptoms in perioperative oral cancer patients are necessary.PMID:37426177 | PMC:PMC10327895 | DOI:10.3389/fnut.2023.1200820

Abnormal distribution of fat tissue and its association with intestinal failure associated liver disease (IFALD) in children and adolescents with long-time parenteral nutrition support: A case control study
CONCLUSION: Patients with IF exhibit low skeletal muscle mass and high visceral fat, which may be related to liver fibrosis. Routine monitoring of body composition is recommended. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.PMID:37416985 | DOI:10.1002/jpen.2548
