Complementary and alternative medicine for the prevention and treatment of migraine headache: an overview of systematic reviews
ConclusionThe evidence from SRs evaluating the effectiveness of CAM for the prevention or treatment of migraine headache is mostly positive. However, several caveats should be taken into account, and only for acupuncture and biofeedback are the conclusions unanimously positive.

Vaccine Hesitancy: Clarifying a Theoretical Framework for an Ambiguous Notion
Conclusion In this paper, we have discussed some of the ambiguities and contradictions of the notion of vaccine hesitancy. We have argued that it is currently more a catchall category than a real concept. This lack of consistence is likely to hamper both research and interventions. Therefore, as a supplement to the previous work carried out by the SAGE working group, we propose grounding the notion of vaccine hesitancy in an explicit theoretical framework that takes some major structural features of contemporary societies into account. We consider VH to be a kind of decision-making process that depends on people’s level ...

DynaMed is an evidence-based clinical reference, which is updated daily through systematic surveillance and critical appraisal of the research literature. DynaMed editors and reviewers select content of interest for integrative medicine, summarize the current evidence, and describe challenges in evidence analysis and application. Evidence quality is rated level 1 (likely reliable) evidence for studies with clinical outcomes and minimal risk of bias, level 2 (mid-level) evidence for studies with clinical outcomes and significant methodological or statistical limitations, and level 3 (lacking direct) evidence for reports tha...

Performing 'pragmatic holism': Professionalisation and the holistic discourse of non-medically qualified acupuncturists and homeopaths in the United Kingdom
This article explores the strategies by which two groups of complementary and alternative medicine practitioners, namely, non-medically qualified acupuncturists and homeopaths in the United Kingdom, pragmatically accommodate holistic notions as a professional resource, a process of negotiation between maintaining their holistic premise, on the one hand, and the drive to professionalise and enhance their societal status, on the other. Based on in-depth interviews with non-medically qualified acupuncture and homeopathy practitioners and school principals, textual analysis of practitioners’ web sites and observation of ...

Lifestyle, biomechanical, and bioenergetic complementary therapies in pediatric oncology.
Authors: McLean TW, Kemper KJ Abstract After the diagnosis of cancer in a child is made, many families complement conventional medical care with lifestyle changes including diet, exercise, environment, and mind-body therapies. Biomechanical, bioenergetic, and other therapies are also sometimes sought. These include massage, chiropractic, acupuncture/acupressure, therapeutic touch, Reiki, homeopathy, and prayer. Some of these complementary therapies have well-established roles in cancer therapy for children, whereas others are controversial and require more research. Management of allergic rhinitis.
Authors: Solelhac G, Charpin D Abstract In this paper, we review the current management of allergic rhinitis and new directions for future treatment. Currently, management includes pharmacotherapy, allergen avoidance and possibly immunotherapy. The simple washing of nasal cavities using isotonic saline provides a significant improvement and is useful, particularly in children. The most effective medication in persistent rhinitis used singly is topical corticosteroid, which decreases all symptoms, including ocular ones. Antihistamines reduce nasal itch, sneeze and rhinorrhea and can be used orally or topically. When...

Complementary and Alternative Therapy (CAM) in the Treatment of Allergic Rhinitis
Abstract CAM is any therapeutic intervention that exists outside traditional allopathic medicine. The utilization in the US population is increasing up to 4 out of 10 patients in some surveys [1]. Given this increasing prevalence, it is essential that clinicians have the resources to advise their patients in the utilizations, benefits, and potential harms of these alternative therapies. Recent literature was reviewed in regard to traditional Chinese medicine [TCM], acupuncture, homeopathy, and herbal therapy in the treatment of allergic rhinitis limited to randomized controlled trials. Several complementary treat...

Complementary Therapies in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases.
Abstract Complementary and alternative therapies (CAM) are defined as therapies that are presently not considered part of conventional medical practice. They are termed "complementary" when used in addition to conventional therapies and termed "alternative" when used instead of conventional therapies. CAM includes many different practices, for example Ayurveda, acupuncture or traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), phytotherapy, homeopathy, probiotics and dietary supplements. While some evidence of benefit exists regarding some therapies, for most of these therapeutic approaches the therapeutic efficacy and safety has...
