Survey of Integrative Medicine in Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (The SIMM Study-2)
Conclusion:In a geographically diverse MPN patient population, and when adjusting for healthy lifestyle practices overall, patterns of lower symptom burden, fatigue, depression, and higher QoL were revealed with integrative medicine utilization. Although limited by gender discrepancy and patient reported data, this study may offer a foundation to structure future integrative medicine trials to complement standard therapies in MPN patients.DisclosuresGowin: Incyte: Consultancy, Other: Scientific Advisory Board, Speakers Bureau. Double-blind evaluation of homeopathy on cocaine craving: a randomized controlled pilot study
ConclusionsA psychosocial rehabilitation setting improved recruitment but was not sufficient to decrease dropout frequency among Brazilian cocaine treatment seekers. Psychosocial rehabilitation plus homeopathic Q-potencies of opium and E. coca were more effective than psychosocial rehabilitation alone in reducing cocaine cravings. Due to high dropout rate and risk of bias, further research is required to confirm our findings, with specific focus on strategies to increase patient retention.Trial registrationRBR-2xzcwz (http://www.ensaiosclinicos.gov.br).

Homeopathic Dilutions, Hahnemann Principles, and the Solvent Issue: Must We Address Ethanol as a "Homeopathic" or a "Chemical" Issue?
CONCLUSION:  Any author working with homeopathic dilutions containing a molar fraction of ethanol higher than 20% should take into account the fact that ethanol is cytotoxic and may be a catalyst to the formation of nanobubbles, and so should adjust the experimental approach accordingly. Homeopathic potencies of Arnica montana L. change gene expression in a Tamm-Horsfall protein-1 cell line in vitro model: the role of ethanol as a possible confounder and statistical bias
Publication date: July 2017 Source:Journal of Integrative Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 4 Author(s): Salvatore Chirumbolo, Geir Bjørklund Marzotto et al. showed that homeopathic preparations of Arnica montana L. acted directly on gene expression of Tamm-Horsfall protein-1 (THP-1) monocyte/macrophage cell lines activated with phorbol12-myristate13-acetate and interleukin-4 (IL-4). A. montana homeopathic dilutions are used in complementary and alternative medicine to treat inflammation disorders and post-traumatic events as well as for wound repair. The French Pharmacopoeia of these remedies uses 0.3% ethanol in each centesim...

Action of antibiotic oxacillin on in  vitro growth of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) previously treated with homeopathic medicines.
CONCLUSIONS: Cultures of MRSA treated with Belladonna or MRSA nosode exhibited reduced growth in vitro, reduced enzymatic activity and became more vulnerable to the action of the antibiotic oxacillin. Further studies are needed on the biomolecular basis of these effects. PMID: 28325220 [PubMed - in process]

Effect of a homeopathic complex on reproductive performance in a commercial pig farm.
In this study, the effect of a homeopathic complex on reproductive performance of sows under intensive farming has been investigated. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Over period of three years, 186 sows were recruited from a farm where a large proportion of animals were suffering from prolonged weaning-to-oestrus intervals (WEI) and weaning-to-service intervals (WSI). Sows were allocated to two groups; once per month, one group was given a homeopathic complex (Borax 10 mK plus Lycopodium 10 mK), while the other group was given a hydro-alcoholic solution (placebo). The follow-up period started one week before the expected date o...

Effect of an homeopathic complex on fatty acids in muscle and performance of the Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus).
CONCLUSION: Nile tilapia juveniles that received the HomeoAqua Mega-3(®) in their diets had a decrease in the TL rates, mainly for the SFAs, and the n-6/n-3 ratio, compared with the control group, without any changes in the animal performance during the experimental period. Stability and Expiry Date of Remedies
Homoeopathic Links 2014; 27: 110-114DOI: 10.1055/s-0034-1368361Expiry date and stability testing are relatively new concepts in homeopathy. There is a lack of scientific data regarding the evaluation of expiry dates of homeopathic tinctures and potencies. This is a preliminary work in that direction, where we have tried to develop standard methodology for stability testing. Nicotiana tabacum tincture (77 % alcohol) was subjected to various tests as per WHO and ICH guidelines and introduced new criteria of evaluating the biological efficacy by in vitro culture st...

Morpho-functional response of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) to a homeopathic complex.
CONCLUSION: The addition of Homeopatila 100(®) at a concentration 40 mL per kg/meal to the diet of juvenile Nile tilapias resulted in improved hepatocytes and intracellular glycogen levels as well as the lowest mean rate of branchial histological changes with an increase in acidic mucin-producing cells compared to neutral mucin-producing cells, compared to control. The effect of a homeopathic complex on psychophysiological onset insomnia in males: a randomized pilot study.
CONCLUSION: Findings suggest that daily use of the homeopathic complex does have an effect over a 4-wk period on physiological and cognitive arousal at bedtime as well as on sleep onset latency in PI sufferers. Further research on the use of this complex for PI is warranted before any definitive conclusions can be drawn. PMID: 23981403 [PubMed - in process]

Magnesium in depression.
Abstract Magnesium is one of the most essential mineral in the human body, connected with brain biochemistry and the fluidity of neuronal membrane. A variety of neuromuscular and psychiatric symptoms, including different types of depression, was observed in magnesium deficiency. Plasma/serum magnesium levels do not seem to be the appropriate indicators of depressive disorders, since ambiguous outcomes, depending on the study, were obtained. The emergence of a new approach to magnesium compounds in medical practice has been seen. Apart from being administered as components of dietary supplements, they are also perc...
