Case Report: Spectrum of interesting ocular manifestations following COVID-19 vaccination: a case series of real-world presentations
Conclusions and importanceVisual symptoms and various ocular adverse events can occur following COVID-19 vaccination, which warrants further investigation and urgent intervention if necessary. Evaluation of the use of methylprednisolone and dexamethasone in asthma critically ill patients with COVID-19: a multicenter cohort study
Previous studies have shown mortality benefits with corticosteroids in Coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19). However, there is inconsistency regarding the use of methylprednisolone over dexamethasone in COVID-19,...

Distal Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy Following COVID-19 Vaccination in a Patient with Solitary Plasmacytoma: A Case Report and Literature Review
Intern Med. 2023;62(16):2419-2425. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.1365-22. Epub 2023 Aug 15.ABSTRACTWe herein report a rare case of distal chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) following coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination. A 39-year-old woman with a solitary plasmacytoma developed general weakness 7 days after receiving the second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, which had progressed for 3 months. A neurological examination revealed limb weakness with areflexia. Serological tests identified the presence of IgG antibodies against anti-GM1 and anti-GM2 gangliosides. Comprehensive e...

Acute Interstitial Nephritis with Glomerular Capillary IgA Deposition Following SARS-CoV-2 mRNA Vaccination
Intern Med. 2023;62(16):2381-2387. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.1631-23. Epub 2023 Aug 15.ABSTRACTWe herein report a case of acute kidney injury (AKI) presenting as acute interstitial nephritis (AIN) after the first dose of the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). A 69-year-old man with a history of diabetes and hypertension presented with AKI 4 days after receiving the vaccine. Despite the administration of methylprednisolone pulse treatment, his renal function worsened, which prompted us to initiate temporal hemodialysis. His renal function subsequently improved, and a renal biopsy confirme...

Temporal patterns of cytokine and injury biomarkers in hospitalized COVID-19 patients treated with methylprednisolone
ConclusionThese findings suggest MP treatment could ameliorate levels of myoglobin and FABP3, but appeared to have no impact on HMGB1, TnI and NTproBNP. In addition, methylprednisolone relieves the COVID-19 induced inflammatory response by diminishing MIG and IP-10 levels. Overall, corticosteroid (methylprednisolone) use in COVID-19 management influences the immunological molecule and injury biomarker profile in COVID-19 patients.
