Surgical Education, Simulation, and Simulators —Updating the Concept of Validity
We describe a contemporary approach to gathering construct validity evidence for the assessment of urologic trainees, for use in both clinical and simulation environments.Recent FindingsFive sources of evidence make up Messick ’s contemporary framework of validity: test content, response process, internal structure, relationship to other variables, and consequences. These are all components of construct validation and concern the accuracy, quality, reproducibility, generalizability, and wider impact of the scores genera ted by an assessment, respectively.SummaryWhen deciding the competency of a trainee, program directors...

Strategies for Setting Medical Nutrition Therapy Priorities for Patients With Stage 3 and 4 Chronic Kidney Disease
The provision of medical nutrition therapy (MNT) for patients with early chronic kidney disease (CKD) has become more common since Medicare began reimbursing for this service in January 2002. Medical Nutrition Therapy for Pediatric Kidney Stone Prevention, Part 3: Cystinuria
Cystinuria is an inherited, genetic condition that causes hyper-excretion of cystine and other dibasic amino acids (lysine, arginine, and ornithine) in the urine due to impaired transport in the proximal renal tubules. The low solubility of cystine leads to precipitation and the formation of renal stones.1,2 While rare, this condition accounts for a relatively significant proportion of pediatric nephrolithiasis, up to 10% in children compared to 1% in adults.3,4 Furthermore, as compared to other causes of pediatric stone formation, cystinuria is more likely to result in frequent recurrence, morbidity, and need for medical interventions.

Obesity, risk of biochemical recurrence, and prostate ‐specific antigen doubling time after radical prostatectomy: results from the SEARCH database
ConclusionWhile we confirmed that higher BMI was associated with BCR, we found no link between BMI and PSADT at the time of recurrence. Our data suggest obese men do not have more aggressive recurrences. Future studies are needed to test whether obesity predicts response to salvage therapies.
