Medical Marijuana: A Fact of Life for Arkansas Employers (Stuart Jackson Commentary)
The election is over, and Arkansas is now the latest of many states to have a medical marijuana law on the books.  Although the new amendment to the Arkansas Constitution is effective immediately, it should take some time for the approved use of medical marijuana to begin. At the very least, someone has to design and print the required "Registry Identification Cards" for users — unless one of your employees shows up with a registry identification card from another state and claims to be a "visiting qualifying patient."   So, what does the new law do? It allows (among other things) "qualifying patients" who ...

Evaluation of a hepatitis C education intervention with clients enrolled in methadone maintenance and needle/syringe programs in Malaysia
Approximately 40% –90% of people who inject drugs (PWID) in Malaysia have hepatitis C (HCV). PWID continue to be disproportionately affected by HCV due to their lack of knowledge, perceived risk and interest in HCV treatment. Education interventions may be an effective strategy for increasing HCV knowledge in PWID, and harm reduction services are uniquely positioned to implement and deploy such interventions.

Arkansas to Accept Medical Marijuana Card Applications
LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas' medical marijuana industry will ramp up in the next week, with the state poised to accept applications from potential patients, growers and distributors. Hepatitis C virus elimination in Swiss opioid agonist therapy programmes - the SAMMSU cohort
CONCLUSION: With nearly 100% DAA treatment success and a low reinfection rate, treatment uptake directly translates into a reduction of HCV-RNA prevalence. Eighty percent treatment uptake is feasible in OAT patients, and adherence and treatment success are not worse than in other populations. Duration of infectiousness and thus HCV transmission can be reduced by early detection and treatment of chronic hepatitis C.PMID:33705563 | DOI:10.4414/smw.2021.20460

Inverse probability weighting for selection bias in a Delaware community health center electronic medical record study of community deprivation and hepatitis C prevalence
CONCLUSIONS: We observed that selection into the catchment area of the studied healthcare facility may bias the association of community deprivation and hepatitis C. This may be mitigated through inverse probability weighting.PMID:33933628 | DOI:10.1016/j.annepidem.2021.04.011

Infectious Complications of Injection Drug Use
Med Clin North Am. 2022 Jan;106(1):187-200. doi: 10.1016/j.mcna.2021.08.006.ABSTRACTThe opioid overdose epidemic is one of the leading causes of death in adults. Its devastating effects have included not only a burgeoning overdose crisis but also multiple converging infectious diseases epidemics. The use of both opioids and other substances through intravenous (IV) administration places individuals at increased risks of infectious diseases ranging from invasive bacterial and fungal infections to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and viral hepatitis. In 2012, there were 530,000 opioid use disorder (OUD)-related hospitaliza...
