Management of Coeliac and Hepatic Artery Aneurysms: A Single Institution Experience of 84 Cases
CONCLUSION: Endovascular treatment is the preferred approach whenever technically possible. Despite higher post-operative morbidity, an open approach with vascular reconstruction using autologous or allogenic vascular grafts yields acceptable long term results.PMID:37722651 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2023.09.032

Clinical Application of Inferior Alveolar Nerve Block Device for Safe and Secure IANB by Any Operator
Pain Res Manag. 2023 Sep 8;2023:1021918. doi: 10.1155/2023/1021918. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThe inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) is an established technique with a success rate of 60-80%; however, large errors have been reported among operators. Some dentists do not prefer to use IANB because of the risk of complications. Nevertheless, it is a useful technique for pain control, and a secure IANB offers significant benefits to operators and patients. This case series study aimed to investigate the efficacy of the "IANB Device," a nerve block guide for IANB, and the adverse events associated with its use in clinical pra...

The Relationship between Pain Catastrophizing and Cognitive Function in Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain: A Scoping Review
CONCLUSION: Although evidence exists for the relationship between cognitive function and PC, there is a lack of rigorous research to indicate the strength of this relationship and the specific cognitive functions affected. The literature lacks appropriate populations needed to investigate clinically relevant PC and is limited by heterogeneous neuropsychological test batteries. Future research should include populations demonstrating the behaviors being studied, intentional analysis of outcomes, and appropriate cognitive tests.PMID:37719894 | PMC:PMC10505081 | DOI:10.1155/2023/5851450

Association of pain neurophysiology knowledge and application amongst UK chiropractic students: A cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Chiropractic placement students in the United Kingdom appear to have a lower level of pain knowledge than other health care professionals and education institutions may wish to consider how to best address this within their curricula.PMID:37721388 | DOI:10.7899/JCE-22-27

Clinical and Epidemiological Profile of Herpes Zoster and Its Complications in a Tertiary Care Center of Bihar: A Prospective Study
Conclusion A broader understanding of the clinical and epidemiological factors of herpes zoster and post-herpetic complications is important as this disease constitutes a considerable burden in a tertiary care center and if not treated adequately, the after-effects might last for many years altogether. Hence, early diagnosis and initiation of adequate antiviral therapy as well as pain management is the key aspect of management.PMID:37719532 | PMC:PMC10503883 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.43560

Inflammatory cytokines in rheumatoid arthritis: Diagnostic Challenges, Pathogenic Mechanisms and their role in depression and management
Curr Top Med Chem. 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.2174/1568026623666230915095151. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDepression being a common comorbidity of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is found to be responsible for the reduction in the lifespan of the sufferer along with the compromised quality of life. The study quoted below highlights the pathogenic pathways, the frequency of RA along with its impact on patients, thus, raising awareness about the concerned topic. It is found that the chances and frequency of developing depression are 2-3 times higher in patients with RA in comparison to the general population. For such studies, self-re...

Effectiveness and Safety of Eliglustat Treatment in Gaucher Disease: Real-Life Unicentric Experience
In this study, we evaluated the effectiveness and safety of eliglustat in a cohort of 12 patients with GD followed up in our center, reporting a reduction in both chitotriosidase (394.3 vs 181.1 nmol/h/mL, P = 0.027) and glucosylsphingosine values (45.1 vs 18.9 ng/mL, P <0.001) after at least 12 months of therapy compared with baseline, regardless of patient demographic characteristics and GD characteristics.FINDINGS: There were no drug-related serious adverse effects and no drug-related cardiac events. Most adverse events were mild and transient, mainly dyspepsia and abdominal pain. Of interest, we reported an absence ...

Attitudes and Practices Surrounding Opioid Prescriptions following Open Reduction Internal Fixation of Distal Radius and Ankle Fractures: A Survey of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association Membership
CONCLUSIONS: The principle finding of this study is the lack of a standardized approach to postoperative prescribing in distal radius and ankle fractures, illustrated by the wide range in number of opioids prescribed by Canadian orthopaedic surgeons. Our data suggest a trend towards overprescription among respondents following distal radius and ankle ORIF. Future studies should aim to rationalize interventions targeted at reducing postoperative opioid prescribing for common orthopaedic trauma procedures.PMID:37719667 | PMC:PMC10501842 | DOI:10.1155/2023/9968219

Bioinformation. 2023 Jan 31;19(1):1-4. doi: 10.6026/97320630019001. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTOral Squamous cell Cancers (OSCC) is strongly associated with tobacco consumption. We here in present a case study of a OSCC patient who refused standard oncological care (SOC), to highlight the importance of integrating palliative care (PC) for improved patient outcomes. A 61 years male patient, with history of chewing tobacco for more than 20 years and diagnosed to have OSCC for 1.5 years presented with severe anaemia and a cauliflower-like growth (12 x 10 cm) in the left oral cavity and cheek with greenish-yellow discharge. Pus ...
