Short Tandem Repeat (STR) Profiling of Earwax DNA Obtained from Healthy Volunteers
Curr Issues Mol Biol. 2023 Jul 10;45(7):5741-5751. doi: 10.3390/cimb45070362.ABSTRACTThe present study aimed to establish human earwax as a potential source of DNA evidence that could be effectively used in human identification. Sixty earwax samples were obtained from 15 healthy male and female Saudi volunteers living in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Four consecutive earwax swab samples were obtained from each volunteer and stored for 1, 15, 30 and 60 days. Earwax samples were stored at room temperature (20-22 °C). Reference oral swab was also taken from each volunteer. DNA was extracted by QIAamp DNA Mini kit and quantified by r...

Physicians' Knowledge, Attitudes, and Perception Toward Pediatric Palliative Care in Saudi Arabia: A National Exploratory Survey
CONCLUSION: Multiple gaps were identified. PPC basic concepts should be included in the formal medical curriculum (e.g., pain management, communication, and ethical considerations at the end of life). There is also a significant need to develop further both primary and specialized palliative care.PMID:37496712 | PMC:PMC10366288 | DOI:10.1089/pmr.2023.0010

Delivering Primary Health Care (PHC) Services for Controlling NCDs During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Scoping Review
AbstractNon-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide. NCDs also increase mortality from COVID-19 and primary health care (PHC) services are an important component in the prevention and control of long-term NCDs. The main goal of the present study was to review primary healthcare services for the NCDs patients via primary healthcare network during COVID-19 pandemic. In this scoping review, Search engines including PubMed, Scopus, and Science-direct up to 1st February 2022 were searched to identify studies regarding primary care services for NCDs patients via primary health care during COVID-19 p...

The Relevance of Food Constituents to the Irritable Bowel Syndrome: A Rome IV-Based Prevalence Study Among Medical Students
CONCLUSION: About 17.8% of medical students had irritable bowel syndrome with a greater prevalence in females. The irritable bowel syndrome group consumed significantly more energy, carbohydrates, and saturated fatty acids, while the non-irritable bowel syndrome group consumed significantly more fibers and niacin. Our results did not show any significant association between irritable bowel syndrome and fermentable oligosaccharide, disaccharide, monosaccharide, and polyol intake. Overall, both groups were not adhering to the Saudi dietary recommended intake.PMID:37485558 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2023.22490

Anatomical Distribution Patterns of Peripheral Arterial Disease According to Patient Characteristics: A Unicentral Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: Segmental involvement in PAD varies with the risk factors and metabolic comorbidities present in patients. DM is an independent predictor of the anatomical distribution of PAD. The identification of such an anatomical distribution is paramount for screening procedures, early detection of disease, and prevention of complications, particularly limb amputation.PMID:37485230 | PMC:PMC10361088 | DOI:10.2147/VHRM.S416967
