The dynamic relationships between nuclear energy consumption, nuclear reactors and load capacity factor: time and frequency domain panel data analysis
This study examines the relationships between nuclear energy, nuclear fission, nuclear fusion, and load capacity factor for the eight countries (Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Russia, Spain, USA) that consumed the most nuclear energy from 1993 to 2018 using the time (Emirmahmutoglu & Kose, 2011) and frequency domain (Croux & Reusens, 2013) panel causality tests. The results differ according to time and frequency domain causality tests. While the time-domain causality test results showed no causal relationship between the nuclear energy consumption, nuclear reactors, and the load capacity factor variables, t...

Occurrence and risk assessment of pesticides and pharmaceuticals in viticulture impacted watersheds from Northwest Spain
Chemosphere. 2023 Sep 6:140098. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.140098. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAn automated analytical methodology was developed, validated and applied to monitor 73 organic pollutants (pesticides and pharmaceuticals) in surface and groundwater samples obtained in watersheds from an intensive viticulture, rural region, in the Northwest of Spain. Filtered samples were concentrated using a reusable solid-phase extraction sorbent, on-line combined with liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The analytical procedure achieved limits of quantification between 1 ng L-1 and 10 ng L-1, wit...

Is there a 'universal' core? Using semantic primes to select vocabulary across languages in AAC
Augment Altern Commun. 2023 Sep 8:1-11. doi: 10.1080/07434618.2023.2243322. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCore vocabulary lists and vocabulary inventories vary according to language. Lists from one language cannot and should not be assumed to be translatable, as words represent language-specific concepts and grammar. In this manuscript, we (a) present the results of a vocabulary overlap analysis between different published core vocabulary lists in English, Korean, Spanish, and Sepedi; (b) discuss the concept of universal semantic primes as a set of universal concepts that are posited to be language-independent; and (c) pro...

Gender differences in the effect of teleworking on job loss during the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain
Econ Hum Biol. 2023 Aug 16;51:101299. doi: 10.1016/j.ehb.2023.101299. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis paper analyzes gender differences regarding the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the likelihood of job loss, differentiating between employment transitions towards unemployment, inactivity and furlough schemes, and the role that teleworking may have had as a protector of job loss in Spain. Based on more than 1,800 types of jobs defined by occupation and economic activity combinations, we propose an Evidence-Based Teleworking Index that considers the intensity of telework use in a given type of job, but also reflects t...
