Unleashing the potential of CRISPR multiplexing: Harnessing Cas12 and Cas13 for precise gene modulation in eye diseases
Vision Res. 2023 Sep 16;213:108317. doi: 10.1016/j.visres.2023.108317. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGene therapy is a flourishing field with the potential to revolutionize the treatment of genetic diseases. The emergence of CRISPR-Cas9 has significantly advanced targeted and efficient genome editing. Although CRISPR-Cas9 has demonstrated promising potential applications in various genetic disorders, it faces limitations in simultaneously targeting multiple genes. Novel CRISPR systems, such as Cas12 and Cas13, have been developed to overcome these challenges, enabling multiplexing and providing unique advantages. Cas13, in...

Predictors of response to a lapse in anti-VEGF treatment in patients with macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion
CONCLUSIONS: Patients' responses to treatment lapses for ME secondary to RVO can be predicted with reasonable accuracy using readily available clinical data, particularly age, BMI, time since diagnosis, and history of dyslipidemia. Providers should consider these factors when counselling patients and determining follow-up schedules.PMID:37716706 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcjo.2023.08.002

Total recall: the role of PIDDosome components in neurodegeneration
Trends Mol Med. 2023 Sep 14:S1471-4914(23)00193-4. doi: 10.1016/j.molmed.2023.08.008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe PIDDosome is a multiprotein complex that includes p53-induced protein with a death domain 1 (PIDD1), receptor-interacting protein-associated ICH-1/CED-3 homologous protein with a death domain (RAIDD), and caspase-2, the activation of which is driven by PIDDosome assembly. In addition to the key role of the PIDDosome in the regulation of cell differentiation, tissue homeostasis, and organogenesis and regeneration, caspase-2, RAIDD and PIDD1 engagement in neuronal development was shown. Here, we focus on th...

Exudative vascular anomalous complex-like lesion of the peripapillary area
CONCLUSION: Exudative intraretinal aneurysmal lesions can occur in areas other than perifoveal area. OCT is an useful investigation for knowing their characteristics and the response to treatment. These aneurysmal lesions irrespective of their location can be called by the name eVAC-like or more aptly retinal capillary macro aneurysms (RCM).PMID:37715627 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231202895

A metabolomic investigation of serum perfluorooctane sulfonate and perfluorooctanoate
CONCLUSIONS: In this large metabolomic study, we observed robust positive associations with PFOS for several molecules. Further investigation of these metabolites may offer insight into PFOS-related biologic effects.PMID:37716341 | DOI:10.1016/j.envint.2023.108198
