Poultry production as the main reservoir of ciprofloxacin- and tigecycline-resistant extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing < em > Salmonella enterica < /em > serovar Kentucky ST198.2-2 causing human infections in China
In this study, whole-genome sequencing (WGS) analysis divided 327 S. Kentucky ST198 isolates into two clades, of which ST198.2 is more prevalent than ST198.1 worldwide. We further compared the genomic characteristics of 70 ST198 isolates from animals and humans during 2019-2022 plus previously reported 38 isolates from 2013 to 2019 in China. One hundred five of the 108 isolates were ST198.2, which could be differentiated into two subclades. ST198.2-1 was prevalent in isolates during 2013-2019, while ST198.2-2 has increased to be the predominant subclade in isolates since 2019. CRISPR typing can differentiate the clade ST19...

Highly efficient adsorption of antibiotic ciprofloxacin hydrochloride from aqueous solution by diatomite-basic zinc chloride composites
In this study, we introduce a diatomite and basic zinc chloride composite (ZnHC-Dt) prepared using a straightforward deposition method, with the ability to achieve highly efficient ciprofloxacin removal. ZnHC-Dt is characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method (BET). We also assess the zeta potential. The optimized ZnHC-Dt adsorbent, achieved at a mass ratio of 0.45 with ZnHC/(ZnHC+Dt), is adopted with a CIP adsorption capacity of 831.96 mg/g at 25 °C, broad pH adaptability (with...

3-(Bromoacetyl) coumarin is a potential therapeutic agent against neonatal sepsis-associated Pseudomonas extremorientalis
In this study, we investigated the efficacy of 3-(bromoacetyl) coumarin (3-BC) in reducing the virulence factors of P. extremorientalis strains isolated from neonatal sepsis. Our results showed that 3-BC effectively reduced the production of various virulence factors, including protease, elastase, siderophore, and exopolysaccharide in these strains. Furthermore, at a concentration of 125 µg/ml, 3-BC also inhibited the biofilm formation ability of these strains in combination with ciprofloxacin. It was discovered that 3-BC was functionally effective in protecting C. elegans against bacterial infection. Moreover, the in vit...

Production of MgFe < sub > 2 < /sub > O < sub > 4 < /sub > /activated carbons derived from a harmful grass Cynodon dactylon and their utilization for ciprofloxacin removal
Chemosphere. 2023 Aug 19:139891. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.139891. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCynodon dactylon, an invasive species, exhibits its robust adaptability, reproduction and nutrient regime against the local species. Taking advantage of this harmful grass as a raw precursor to produce valuable materials for wastewater treatment has paid much attention. Herein, we report on the fabrication of Cynodom dactylon derived MgFe2O4@AC with a main goal of effective removal of ciprofloxacin antibiotic from water. Our findings showed that MgFe2O4@ACK1 composites attained mesoporous textures, high specific surface a...
