Time effect of dupilumab to treat severe uncontrolled asthma in adolescents: A pilot study
CONCLUSION: Results of this study demonstrated that dupilumab was quickly effective to reduce asthma exacerbation and ameliorate quality of life in severe asthmatic adolescents.PMID:37695223 | DOI:10.15586/aei.v51i5.877

The interplay of physical and cognitive function in rehabilitation of interstitial lung disease patients: a narrative review
CONCLUSIONS: Numerous underlying etiologies of ILD contribute to frailty, skeletal muscle and cognitive function, but their respective neurobiologic mechanisms require further investigation. Exercise training increases physical measures, but complementary approaches may improve their applicability to improve daily activities.PMID:37691666 | PMC:PMC10482628 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-209

Association of giant cell hepatitis and autoimmune hemolytic anemia in infancy
Orv Hetil. 2023 Sep 10;164(36):1432-1436. doi: 10.1556/650.2023.32848. Print 2023 Sep 10.ABSTRACTGiant cell hepatitis associated with autoimmune hemolytic anemia (GCH-AIHA) is a rare disorder with unfavorable prognosis, affecting infants and young children. The mortality rate is high, complications of acute liver failure, sepsis, or liver transplantation can be responsible for fatal outcomes. An 18-month-old child who was diagnosed previously with autoimmune hemolytic anemia, developed acute hepatitis and acute liver failure concomitant to the relapse of the disease. GCH-AIHA is characterized by Coombs positive hemolytic a...

Upregulation of IL-37 in epithelial cells: A potential new mechanism of T cell inhibition induced by tacrolimus
This study showed that tacrolimus could directly upregulate the expression of IL-37 in human gingival epithelial cells by promoting the TGF-βRI/Smad3 pathway independently of calcineurin inhibition and MAPKs. In contrast, dexamethasone, one of the corticosteroids, did not have the same effect. Moreover, IL-37 could inhibit the proliferation of activated T cells and the secretion of effector cytokines and alleviate epithelial cell apoptosis and death caused by activated T cells ina co-culturesystem. Furthermore, compared with healthy controls, IL-37 and p-Smad3 levels significantly increased in the oral mucosa affected by ...

An Unusual Cause of Fever, Neck Pain, and Neck Stiffness: Acute Calcific Tendinitis of the Longus Colli Muscle
J Emerg Med. 2023 Jun 10:S0736-4679(23)00316-5. doi: 10.1016/j.jemermed.2023.05.023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Acute calcific tendinitis (ACT) of the longus colli muscle (LCM) is an inflammatory response due to deposition of calcium hydroxyapatite crystals. It is typically correlated with whiplash and overuse injuries. A common presentation of this inflammatory response is acute but progressive neck pain. It is a rare but important cause of neck pain that should be considered on a differential diagnosis when distinguishing between life-threatening conditions and non-life-threatening causes of neck pain.CASE...

2023 Canadian Thoracic Society Guideline on Pharmacotherapy in Patients With Stable COPD
Chest. 2023 Sep 6:S0012-3692(23)05275-3. doi: 10.1016/j.chest.2023.08.014. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic obstructive pulmonary disease patient care must include confirming a diagnosis with postbronchodilator spirometry. Because of the clinical heterogeneity and the reality that airflow obstruction assessed by spirometry only partially reflects disease severity, a thorough clinical evaluation of the patient should include assessment of symptom burden and risk of exacerbations that permits the implementation of evidence-informed pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions. This guideline provides recommendations...
