Rapid, sensitive, and specific lateral-flow immunochromatographic point-of-care device for detection of varicella-zoster virus immunoglobulin G antibodies in fingerstick blood
J Immunol Methods. 2023 Jan 20:113429. doi: 10.1016/j.jim.2023.113429. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVaricella zoster virus (VZV) causes childhood chickenpox, becomes latent in sensory ganglia and reactivates years later to cause shingles (Zoster) and postherpetic neuralgia in the elderly and immunosuppressed individuals. Serologic IgG tests can be used to determine if a person has antibodies to VZV from past varicella infection or had received varicella or zoster (shingles) vaccination. Commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) are currently used for the detection of VZV IgG antibodies in patient serum sample...

An evaluation of influenza, pneumococcal and herpes zoster vaccination coverage in Australian aged care residents, 2018 to 2022
CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed local influenza vaccination policies and practices exist and influenza vaccination uptake was consistently high. Pneumococcal and herpes zoster vaccination uptake were lower. Quality improvement strategies that at least determine the status of those residents classified as unknown are required.PMID:37147271 | DOI:10.1016/j.idh.2023.03.005

Clinical and economic impact of various strategies for varicella immunity screening and vaccination of health care personnel
Conclusion Strategies relying on screening and vaccinating HCP for varicella on employment were shown to be cost-effective for health care facilities and are consistent with current national guidelines for varicella prevention.

Primary care physicians' experience with zoster vaccine live (ZVL) and awareness and attitudes regarding the new recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV).
CONCLUSIONS: Physicians report not recommending ZVL to certain ACIP-recommended groups, but report recommending it to some groups for which the vaccine should be avoided. Implementation of recommendations for RZV will need to consider financial barriers and the complex patchwork of office-based and pharmacy delivery ZVL has encountered. Epidemiology and clinical characteristics of herpes zoster in a tertiary care hospital in Brazil.
CONCLUSION: The results of this study demonstrate a high burden of HZ disease in a Brazilian tertiary care hospital in the HZ vaccination era. Awareness of the incidence and comorbidity factors associated with HZ in Latin American countries such as Brazil contribute for adoption and implementation of strategies for immunization in this area. Suboptimal immunization coverage among Canadian rheumatology patients in routine clinical care.
CONCLUSION: There is suboptimal immunization coverage among ambulatory rheumatology patients. An important role for patient and physician education is highlighted from our study, especially as physician recommendation of vaccination was strongly predictive of vaccine uptake. Improving Shingles Vaccination Rates in Family Medicine
J Fam Pract. 2021 Jul;70(6S):S13-S18. doi: 10.12788/jfp.0218.ABSTRACTAt the end of the activity, participants will be able to: • Characterize the burden of herpes zoster infections. • Recommend the recombinant zoster vaccine to patients in accordance with guidance from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. • Implement strategies to increase patient acceptance of herpes zoster and other vaccinations. • Use available resources to increase awareness among patients about the importance and safety of recommended vaccinations.PMID:34432619 | DOI:10.12788/jfp.0218

Seroprevalence of viral infectious diseases and associated factors in Korean patients with inflammatory bowel diseases
CONCLUSIONS: Seropositivity rates for common viral infectious diseases in Korean patients with IBD were similar to those of the general population. In the younger age group, protective immunity against measles, VZV, and HAV is required, with proper vaccination, as necessary.PMID:34482682 | DOI:10.3904/kjim.2020.386
