Early Mortality as a Quality Indicator in Frontline and Salvage Acute Myeloid Leukemia
CONCLUSIONS: Quality measure algorithms should incorporate a risk mortality index related to leukemia vs. other tumors and benign conditions and a risk mortality index related to the treatment status of leukemia (salvage vs. frontline therapy).PMID:37730483 | DOI:10.1016/j.clml.2023.08.016

Effect of Chemotherapeutics on In Vitro Immune Checkpoint Expression in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
Conclusion: Chemotherapy agents have different effects on the expression of ICP ligands in tumor cells with different pathological types, and this may affect the efficacy of combined immunotherapy. These results provide a theoretical basis for further selection and optimization of the combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy.PMID:37728201 | DOI:10.1177/15330338231202307

miRNAs and Multiple Myeloma: Focus on the Pathogenesis, Prognosis, and Drug Resistance
Technol Cancer Res Treat. 2023 Jan-Dec;22:15330338231202391. doi: 10.1177/15330338231202391.ABSTRACTMultiple myeloma (MM) produces clonal plasma cells and aberrant monoclonal antibody accumulation in patients' bone marrow (BM). Around 1% of all cancers and 13% of hematological malignancies are caused by MM, making it one of the most common types of cancer. Diagnostic and therapeutic methods for managing MM are currently undergoing extensive research. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short noncoding RNAs that reduce or inhibit the translation of their target mRNA after transcription. Because miRNAs play an influential role in how mye...

Extraction of interoperable data from healthcare documents by identifying Common Data Elements: an analysis of Radiation Therapy Planning CT Physician Order Entry records
CONCLUSION: Structured and interoperable documentation of medical information can be achieved using common data elements. Our analysis showed that a lot of information recorded with healthcare documents can be presented with this approach. Yet, in the analyzed cohort of planning CT order entries, only a few common data elements were shared among the majority of documents. A common vocabulary and consensus upon relevant information is required to promote interoperability and standardization.PMID:37729894 | DOI:10.1159/000534204

Outcomes of patients with Child-Pugh B and unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma undergoing first-line systemic treatment with sorafenib, lenvatinib, or atezolizumab plus bevacizumab
CONCLUSION: Determining the hepatic reserve of patients with unresectable HCC might be useful for identifying patents suitable for systemic treatment for HCC. Atezo + Bev might prolong the PFS of patients with a Child-Pugh score of 7.PMID:37729889 | DOI:10.1159/000533859

Clinical characteristics and treatment efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in patients with ICIs-induced Adrenal insufficiency
CONCLUSIONS: ICI-induced AI is a rare irAE, and close monitoring of cortisol levels is important. Patients diagnosed with AI after receiving immunotherapy seem to have a favorable outcome.PMID:37729740 | DOI:10.1016/j.tranon.2023.101787

Strict self-isolation did not protect Swedish cancer patients on active treatment from the risk of becoming seropositive for SARS-CoV-2
Conclusion: For Swedish patients on active cancer treatment, high self-assessed COVID-19-related anxiety or strict adherence to self-isolation guidelines were not associated with a lower risk of COVID-19. Patients with HM were less likely to develop serological antibody response after COVID-19 and were more likely to require advanced hospital care, but expressed less COVID-19-related anxiety than patients with SM.PMID:37729083 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2257873

Effect of transversus abdominis plane block on postoperative outcomes in gynecologic oncology patients managed on an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery pathway
CONCLUSIONS: Surgeon-administered TAP blocks were associated with decreased length of stay and post-operative opioid use in patients not receiving scheduled NSAIDs. This decrease in opioid use was not associated with any increase in average or maximum pain scores.PMID:37729808 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2023.09.003
