Variation in Use of Pediatric Cardiology Subspecialty Care A Total Population Study in California, 1983 to 2011
ConclusionsCalifornia’s inpatient regionalized specialty care of pediatric CHD has increased substantially since 1983, especially for surgical CHD discharges. The death rate has decreased, the number of bed days has increased, and a large proportion of these discharges now have public payers. Health care reform efforts must consider these shifts while protecting advances in regionalization of pediatric CHD care.

We are immersed in a sea of data as a result of a proliferation of Internet-enabled communications: texts in books and publications, sensor data from monitors and self tracking devices, audiovisual data (recordings, pictures, video clips, etc.), social media postings (Internet, Twitter, blogs, etc.), and even global positioning system (GPS) signals. We, as data agents, are presently creating 2.5 quintillion (2.5 ×1018) bytes of data per day, and incredibly, 90% of all current data that is estimated to be at 2zettabytes (or 2trillion gigabytes) was produced only in the last two years with most of this data being unstructured.

Is there an association of near-infrared spectroscopy with low cardiac output and adverse outcomes in single-ventricle patients after stage 1 palliation ?
Conclusions : Cerebral NIRS ≤57% at 6 h after surgery detected LCO after stage 1 palliation in single-ventricle patients. Cerebral or renal NIRS was not associated with adverse outcomes and therefore, may not be useful in predicting adverse outcomes in this population.
