Completeness and timeliness of diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis, measles-mumps-rubella, and polio vaccines in young children with chronic health conditions: A systematic review.
CONCLUSIONS: There is a lack of studies reporting coverage and timeliness of routine immunizations in special populations of children. POLICY IMPLICATIONS: Our review suggests a need for improved surveillance of immunization status in special populations of infants, as wellas aneed for standardization of reporting practices. The rise and fall of measles vaccinations
Ten years ago it would not have been worth my time to write about measles nor yours to read about it. In the year 2000, thanks to a very effective 2-shot childhood vaccination program using a combined measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, the U.S. was declared free of this potentially lethal disease. However, by the end of […]Find jobs at Careers by KevinMD.com. Search thousands of physician, PA, NP, and CRNA jobs now. Learn more.

‘They’re Chipping Away.’ Inside the Grassroots Effort to Fight Mandatory Vaccines
Christina Hildebrand went down a rabbit hole and emerged at the statehouse in Sacramento. That’s how she describes it–going down a rabbit hole–and in her case it happened 14 years ago, when she was pregnant with her first child. In a world filled with chemicals and toxins, processed foods and GMOs, she decided her baby would be brought up as naturally and chemical-free as possible. It was when she was researching how best to achieve that goal that she bumped into vaccines. That was a bad time to begin thinking about such things. The fraudulent 1998 paper by British physician Andrew Wakefield ostensibly li...

Death threats won ’t stop this doctor from advocating for vaccines
In the U.S., we now have an outbreak of measles where the cases number more than it has in decades. Most of the people being infected are unvaccinated, and we ’ve all seen the media reports of the growing tide of anti-vaxxers. While the CDC, WHO, and pretty much every medical and scientific authority across the […]Find jobs at Careers by KevinMD.com. Search thousands of physician, PA, NP, and CRNA jobs now. Learn more.

The basics of the MMR vaccine from a pediatrician
As the U.S. endures its largest measles outbreak in 25 years— one that ’s almost certainly going to get worse before it gets better— we ’re getting a lot of calls and questions at my office. What’s measles, what’s the best way to prevent it, when should the vaccine be given to adults and children? Questions about the measles outbreak you were afraid to ask
There have been over 1,000 cases of measles in the first half of 2019 –the most since 1992, according to the CDC. For comparison, 2018 had 372 cases. With New York at the center of the outbreak, it’s reasonable to have questions–from how to know if you’re fully vaccinated to (if you have infants) whether you […]Find jobs at Careers by KevinMD.com. Search thousands of physician, PA, NP, and CRNA jobs now. Learn more.

Being unvaccinated and contact with measles cases as the risk factors of measles outbreak, North Sumatera, Indonesia
ConclusionsBeing unvaccinated and having a contact history increased the risk of measles are two risk factors of measles infection. A mass measles immunization to the school children was undertaken and a strict measles surveillance and notification system were recommended to control the transmission in the future.

Intralesional measles-mumps-rubella is associated with a higher complete response in cutaneous warts: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trial including GRADE qualification.
Conclusion: Intralesional MMR injection was associated with a higher complete response and lower no-response with a high level of certainty. PMID: 31985307 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Vaccines, Antibodies and Drug Libraries. The Possible COVID-19 Treatments Researchers Are Excited About
In early April, about four months after a new, highly infectious coronavirus was first identified in China, an international group of scientists reported encouraging results from a study of an experimental drug for treating the viral disease known as COVID-19. It was a small study, reported in the New England Journal of Medicine, but showed that remdesivir, an unapproved drug that was originally developed to fight Ebola, helped 68% of patients with severe breathing problems due to COVID-19 to improve; 60% of those who relied on a ventilator to breathe and took the drug were able to wean themselves off the machines after 18...

Vaccines for measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella in children.
CONCLUSIONS: Existing evidence on the safety and effectiveness of MMR/MMRV vaccines support their use for mass immunisation. Campaigns aimed at global eradication should assess epidemiological and socioeconomic situations of the countries as well as the capacity to achieve high vaccination coverage. More evidence is needed to assess whether the protective effect of MMR/MMRV could wane with time since immunisation. PMID: 32309885 [PubMed - in process]

A review of intralesional wart therapy
Background: New treatment options for warts include intralesional wart injection with agents such as vitamin D, measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine antigen, Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) antigen, and candida antigen but there have been limited studies to compare their efficacies. IJERPH, Vol. 17, Pages 3464: Studying Public Perception about Vaccination: A Sentiment Analysis of Tweets
This study uses a sample of 9581 vaccine-related tweets in the period January 1, 2019 to April 5, 2019. The time period is of the essence because during this time, a measles outbreak was prevalent throughout the United States and a public debate was raging. Sentiment analysis is applied to the sample, clustering the data into topics using the term frequency–inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) technique. The analyses suggest that most (about 77%) of the tweets focused on the search for new/better vaccines for diseases such as the Ebola virus, human papillomavirus (HPV), and the flu. Of the remainder, about hal...

The global measles crisis-a diversity of causes from armed conflicts to vaccination skepticism.
CONCLUSION: The reasons for the global measles crisis are manifold and in some cases have existed for decades. However, the consequences appear to be accumulating and have had a dramatic impact on case numbers since 2018. The goal of measles elimination and maintenance of the necessary vaccination programs is a constant challenge that requires strict and permanent compliance with WHO recommendations. The number of measles cases reported in Germany is still at a level above the key target for measles elimination specified in the national immunization plan. Timely and/or locally restricted as well as nationwide outbreaks ...
