Terpenoids in Diabetic nephropathy: Advances and Therapeutic Opportunities
Endocr Metab Immune Disord Drug Targets. 2023 Sep 1. doi: 10.2174/1871530323666230901164219. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDiabetic nephropathy (DN) is the foremost ailment resulting in end-stage renal damage. Chronic hyperglycaemia and hyperlipidaemia are the foremost reason for disease progression. The disease is characterized by the severity of albuminuria and cardiovascular disorders. Approximately 20 to 40% of the global prevalence of DN is mostly reported to occur in individuals with diabetes, and nearly 28% of DN occurs in individuals with other renal disorders. The pathological mechanism is very complex, involving ...

Opportunities and challenges for ribosome-inactivating proteins in traditional Chinese medicine plants
Toxicon. 2023 Sep 7;234:107278. doi: 10.1016/j.toxicon.2023.107278. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRibosome-inactivating proteins (RIPs) are a class of cytotoxic rRNA N-glycosylase, which widely exist in higher plants in different taxonomy, including many traditional Chinese medicinal materials and vegetables and fruits. In this paper, the traditional Chinese medicinal plants containing RIPs protein were sorted out, and their pharmacological effects and clinical applications were analyzed. Since many RIPs in traditional Chinese medicine plants exhibit antiviral and antitumor activities and show great clinical application po...

A review on therapeutic mechanism of medicinal plants against osteoporosis: effects of phytoconstituents
Mol Biol Rep. 2023 Sep 7. doi: 10.1007/s11033-023-08751-4. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOsteoporosis is a metabolic bone disorder that over time results in bone loss and raises the risk of fracture. The condition is frequently silent and only becomes apparent when fractures develop. Osteoporosis is treated with pharmacotherapy as well as non-pharmacological therapies such as mineral supplements, lifestyle changes, and exercise routines. Herbal medicine is frequently used in clinical procedures because of its low risk of adverse effects and cost-effective therapeutic results. In the current review, we have used a thorough ...

Sitosterol-rich < em > Digera muricata < /em > against 7-ketocholesterol and lipopolysaccharide-mediated atherogenic responses by modulating NF- ΚB/iNOS signalling pathway in macrophages
This study aimed to elucidate the effect of a phytosterol-rich extract of D. muricata on 7-ketocholesterol-mediated atherosclerosis in macrophages. The extract was examined by phytochemical analyses, GC-MS, TLC, DPPH scavenging and hRBC membrane stabilization assays. Macrophage polarization was studied with experimental groups framed based on alamar blue cell viability and griess assays. Regulations of arginase enzyme activity, ROS generation, mitochondrial membrane potential, cell membrane integrity, pinocytosis, lipid uptake and peroxidation, as well as, intracellular calcium deposition were determined. In addition, expr...

Eriodictyol and thymonin act as GPR35 agonists
Biosci Biotechnol Biochem. 2023 Sep 4:zbad125. doi: 10.1093/bbb/zbad125. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlthough herbs and spices have been used in traditional medicine for more than a century owing to their health benefits, the associated underlying mechanism is still not clear. Since the G protein-coupled receptor 35 (GPR35) has been linked to exert various antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, we screened 19 different herbs and spices for possible GPR35 agonist(s) to understand the GPR35-dependent functions on herbs and spices. Among the screened extracts, the ethyl acetate extract of thyme exhibited a remarkable GP...

HIV/AIDS patients' knowledge, attitude, and practice toward anti-retroviral therapy medications' adverse effects and associated factors in Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital
CONCLUSION: Overall, the study participants had poor knowledge, lack of positive attitudes, and non-adherence to the actual recommended practice toward AEs of ART medications. Lack of comorbidity, having prior AEs experience, and lack of counseling regarding ART medication AEs were associated with poor knowledge. Female gender and a lack of counseling on the AEs of ART medications were associated with a negative attitude.PMID:37667777 | PMC:PMC10475229 | DOI:10.1177/20420986231194752
