Novel technique of detecting inflammatory and osseous changes in the glenohumeral joint associated with patient age and weight using FDG- and NaF-PET imaging
CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrates the varying effect of limb laterality and BMI on FDG and NaF uptake at the GH joint. Adoption of molecular imaging will require future studies that correlate tracer uptake with relevant medical and illness history as well as degenerative change evident on traditional imaging.PMID:37736491 | PMC:PMC10509288

Investigation on Methylene Blue Dye Adsorption in Aqueous by the Modified Mussel Shells: Optimization, Kinetic, Thermodynamic and Equilibrium Studies
This study assessed the methylene blue adsorption using natural and modified mussel shell powders in the aqueous solution. The mussel shell samples were processed in a NaClO solution then modified with sodium dodecyl sulfate and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. The characteristics of mussel shell samples before and after modification were demonstrated using infared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, nitrogen adsorption/desorption, energy dispersive X-ray, water contact angle, and dynamic light scattering methods. Some factors such as the pH of the medium, adsorption temperature, and ads...

3D interconnected porous PMMA scaffold integrating with advanced nanostructured CaP-based biomaterials for rapid bone repair and regeneration
J Mech Behav Biomed Mater. 2023 Sep 7;147:106106. doi: 10.1016/j.jmbbm.2023.106106. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBioactive scaffolds with polymer and nanostructured bioactive glass-based composites are promising materials for regenerative applications in consequence of close mimics of natural bone composition. Poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) is a highly preferred thermoplastic polymer for orthopedic applications as it has good biocompatibility. Different kinds of bioactive, biodegradable as well as biocompatible biomaterial composites such as Bioglass (BG), Hydroxyapatite (Hap), and Tricalcium phosphate (TCP) can be integ...

Fabrication and characterization of manganese dioxide (MnO < sub > 2 < /sub > ) nanoparticles and its degradation potential of benzene and pyrene
In this study, MnO2 nanoparticles were synthesized chemically using sodium thiosulphate as reducing agent. MnO2 nanoparticles were characterized using UV-visible adsorption spectroscopy and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). A X-Ray Diffraction Spectrophotometer (XRD), a Scanning Electron Microscopy - Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analyzer (SEM-EDAX), and Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) were used to identify the crystalline nature and particle size of the fabricated MnO2 nanoparticles. Batch adsorption studies were conducted to identify the optimal conditions for better benzene and pyrene adsorption from aqueous solu...

A nitric oxide-catalytically generating carboxymethyl chitosan/sodium alginate hydrogel coating mimicking endothelium function for improving the biocompatibility
In this study, inspired by the functions of endothelial glycocalyx and the NO-releasing of endothelial cells (ECs), a biomimetic coating (TNTA-Se) with three-dimensional gel-like structures and NO-catalytically generating ability was constructed on the titanium surface. To this end, the titanium alloy was firstly anodized and then annealed to form nanotube structures imitating the three-dimensional villous of glycocalyx, followed by the preparation of the Cu2+-loaded polydopamine intermediate layer for the immobilization of carboxymethyl chitosan and sodium alginate to form the hydrogel structure. Finally, an organoseleniu...

A randomised trial of < sup > 18 < /sup > FPSMA-1007-PET/CT versus NaF-PET/CT for staging primary prostate cancer: A trial protocol
BJUI Compass. 2023 May 12;4(5):513-522. doi: 10.1002/bco2.243. eCollection 2023 Sep.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-positron emission tomography/contrast-enhanced computed tomography (PET/CT) is a sensitive imaging modality for prostate cancer (PCa). Due to lack of knowledge of the patient benefit, PSMA-PET/CT is not yet recommended in the European guidelines for staging and treatment planning of patients with newly diagnosed PCa. We will investigate the potential difference in progression-free survival (PFS) and quality of life (QoL) of using PSMA-PET/CT versus sodium fluoride (NaF)-PET/CT fo...

Biogenic preparation of copper oxide nanoparticles using table olive: Catalytic reduction, cytotoxicity, and burn wound healing activities
Environ Res. 2023 Aug 24:116995. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2023.116995. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGreen strategy for the preparation of copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) using table olive has been researched in the present work. Some characterization assays viz., transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) was used for evaluation of the crystal structure, size and morphology of the manufactured NPs. As a catalyst, the prepared material demonstrated remarkable catalytic capability (>99% in 4 min) for the reduction of rhodamine B ...

Three-component deep eutectic solvent-based microextraction approach for biodiesel quality control: Determination of water and metals
Anal Chim Acta. 2023 Oct 9;1277:341658. doi: 10.1016/j.aca.2023.341658. Epub 2023 Jul 26.ABSTRACTBiodiesel is an important alternative fuel produced by blending biofuels with petroleum diesel. Biofuel production is usually carried out by catalytic interesterification of animal fats or vegetable oils, followed by the removal of by-products and catalysts through washing with water. Residual amounts of water and catalysts can accelerate fuel biodegradation and contribute to the corrosion of metal surfaces. Considering the need to control the quality of biodiesel fuel, a simple and environmentally friendly analytical approach ...
