Postbiotic as Novel Alternative Agent or Adjuvant for the Common Antibiotic Utilized in the Food Industry
CONCLUSION: Postbiotic constituents may be a new approach for utilization in the pharmaceutical and food sectors for developing therapeutic treatments. Further metabolomics investigations are required to describe novel postbiotics and clinical trials are also required to define the sufficient dose and optimum administration frequency of postbiotics.PMID:37702234 | DOI:10.2174/1389201025666230912123849

Age-dependent modulation of gut microbiome in response to tumor immunomodulation
In this study, we sequentially treated young mice (~8 weeks) and old mice (>18 months) with bilateral melanoma using FUS and calreticulin nanoparticles (CRT-NP) to enhance immunogenic cell death. The combination of CRT-NP and FUS (CFUS) demonstrated greater efficacy in inducing regression of treated and untreated tumors in young mice compared to old mice. The diminished effectiveness in older mice was associated with significant differences in gut microbiome composition, characterized by alterations in bacterial species and splenic immune cells. Specifically, young mice exposed to CFUS exhibited higher abundance of Bact...

Understanding mechanisms of virulence in MRSA: implications for anti-virulence treatment strategies
Expert Rev Anti Infect Ther. 2023 Jul 27. doi: 10.1080/14787210.2023.2242585. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a widespread pathogen, often causing recurrent and deadly infections in the hospital and community. Many S. aureus virulence factors have been suggested as potential targets for antivirulence therapy to decrease the threat of diminishing antibiotic availability. Antivirulence methods hold promise due to their adjunctive and prophylactic potential and decreased risk for selective pressure.AREAS COVERED: This review describes the dominant virulence mec...

An updated review on oral protein-based antigen vaccines efficiency and delivery approaches: a special attention to infectious diseases
Arch Microbiol. 2023 Jul 19;205(8):289. doi: 10.1007/s00203-023-03629-2.ABSTRACTVarious infectious agents affect human health via the oral entrance. The majority of pathogens lack approved vaccines. Oral vaccination is a convenient, safe and cost-effective approach with the potential of provoking mucosal and systemic immunity and maintaining individual satisfaction. However, vaccines should overcome the intricate environment of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). Oral protein-based antigen vaccines (OPAVs) are easier to administer than injectable vaccines and do not require trained healthcare professionals. Additionally, the...

Laterosporulin25: A probiotically produced, novel defensin-like bacteriocin and its immunogenic properties
Int Immunopharmacol. 2023 Jun 21;121:110500. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2023.110500. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlthough multiple vaccines have been developed against infectious diseases, the rapid emergence of new pathogens develops an urgent need for novel strategies to combat infectious diseases. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are excellent agents to fight against infectious diseases having unique multiple mechanisms of action against various pathogens. Apart from the direct applications, AMPs can also be developed as subunit vaccines or could be used as a highly immunogenic carrier protein with highly antigenic but non-im...

Prophylactic immunization to Helicobacter pylori infection using spore vectored vaccines
CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates the utility of bacterial spores for mucosal vaccination to H. pylori infection. The heat stability and robustness of Bacillus spores coupled with their existing use as probiotics make them an attractive solution for either protection against H. pylori infection or potentially for therapy and control of active infection.PMID:37314018 | DOI:10.1111/hel.12997

Uropathogenic Escherichia coli endeavors: an insight into the characteristic features, resistance mechanism, and treatment choice
Arch Microbiol. 2023 May 8;205(6):226. doi: 10.1007/s00203-023-03553-5.ABSTRACTUropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) are the strains diverted from the intestinal status and account mainly for uropathogenicity. This pathotype has gained specifications in structure and virulence to turn into a competent uropathogenic organism. Biofilm formation and antibiotic resistance play an important role in the organism's persistence in the urinary tract. Increased consumption of carbapenem prescribed for multidrug-resistant (MDR) and Extended-spectrum-beta lactamase (ESBL)-producing UPECs, has added to the expansion of resistance. The ...
