Novel technique of detecting inflammatory and osseous changes in the glenohumeral joint associated with patient age and weight using FDG- and NaF-PET imaging
CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrates the varying effect of limb laterality and BMI on FDG and NaF uptake at the GH joint. Adoption of molecular imaging will require future studies that correlate tracer uptake with relevant medical and illness history as well as degenerative change evident on traditional imaging.PMID:37736491 | PMC:PMC10509288

A randomised trial of < sup > 18 < /sup > FPSMA-1007-PET/CT versus NaF-PET/CT for staging primary prostate cancer: A trial protocol
BJUI Compass. 2023 May 12;4(5):513-522. doi: 10.1002/bco2.243. eCollection 2023 Sep.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-positron emission tomography/contrast-enhanced computed tomography (PET/CT) is a sensitive imaging modality for prostate cancer (PCa). Due to lack of knowledge of the patient benefit, PSMA-PET/CT is not yet recommended in the European guidelines for staging and treatment planning of patients with newly diagnosed PCa. We will investigate the potential difference in progression-free survival (PFS) and quality of life (QoL) of using PSMA-PET/CT versus sodium fluoride (NaF)-PET/CT fo...

Fluoride-induced osteoporosis via interfering with the RANKL/RANK/OPG pathway in ovariectomized rats: Oophorectomy shifted skeletal fluorosis from osteosclerosis to osteoporosis
In this study, we established the fluoride (F) -exposed ovariectomized (OVX) and non-OVX rat models to assess the potential role of ovarian function loss in osteosclerosis and osteoporosis. Micro-CT scanning showed that excessive F significantly induced a high bone mass in non-OVX rats. In contrast, a low bone mass manifestation was presented in OVX F-exposed rats. Also, a prominent feature of increasing trabecular connectivity, collagen area, growth plate thickness, and reduced trabecular space was found by histopathological morphology in non-OVX F-exposed rats; an opposite result was observed in OVX F-exposed. These alte...

Positron emission tomography in the diagnosis and follow-up of transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy patients: A systematic review
CONCLUSION: [11C]PIB, Na[18F]F and [18F]FBP can be used to diagnose cardiac amyloidosis, although [18F]FBP may not be suitable for the distinction of different types of amyloid cardiomyopathy. No studies on PET in the follow-up of ATTR amyloidosis patients were found. Future research should focus on the use of these PET tracers in the follow-up of ATTR amyloidosis patients.PMID:37561144 | DOI:10.1007/s00259-023-06381-3

Severely increased albuminuria in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus is associated with increased subclinical atherosclerosis in femoral arteries with Na < sup > 18 < /sup > FF activity as a proxy - The DETERMINE study
CONCLUSIONS: This study indicates that the presence of severely increased albuminuria in patients with T2DM is cross-sectionally associated with subclinical arterial disease in terms of micro-calcification and aortic stiffness. Additional decrease in kidney function was associated with advanced macro-calcifications.PMID:37550141 | DOI:10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2023.117199

Synthesis and characterization of pH-responsive conducting polymer/Na-alginate/gelatin based composite hydrogels for sustained release of amoxicillin drug
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Jul 28:126015. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126015. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTComposite hydrogels of Na-Alginate (Na-ALG) and Gelatin (GEL) with conducting polymers (CPs) were synthesised using poly(o-phenylenediamine) (POPD), polyaniline (PANI), poly(1-naphthylamine (PNA) and poly(vinylenedine fluoride) (PVDF). The synthesised hydrogels were characterized using FTIR, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) rheology, swelling ability and in-vitro drug release characteristics. The purpose of this investigation was to determine whether these hydrogels could be used to deliver antibiotics for extended...

Leaching toxicity and deformation failure characteristics of phosphogypsum-based cemented paste backfill under chemical solution erosion
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Jul 25. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-28707-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn order to explore the potential environmental and safety risks of phosphogypsum-based cemented paste backfill (PCPB) in mines, aiming at the actual problems of different acidity and alkalinity of the groundwater environment where PCPB is located, the chemical solution erosion test, element concentration determination test, uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) test, and microscopic analysis test of PCPB were carried out. The effects of three different chemical solutions, HCl solution, NaOH solution, and pure water on the...
