Improving Biohydrogen Production by Dark Fermentation of Milk Processing Wastewater by Physicochemical and Enzymatic Pretreatments
Appl Biochem Biotechnol. 2023 Sep 8. doi: 10.1007/s12010-023-04619-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBiohydrogen is considered an alternative energy reserve. Dark fermentation is one of the important green hydrogen production techniques that utilizes organic waste as raw material. It is a promising bioconversion, easy, not expensive, and cost-effective process. Milk processing wastewater (MPWW) is an organic effluent generated in large volumes on a daily basis and disposed directly into the environment. In this research, the study of biochemical hydrogen potential (BHP) test of MPWW was evaluated and used as substrate (S). ...

Mechanism of Lingbao Huxin Dan in the treatment of bradyarrhythmia complicated with coronary heart disease: a network pharmacology analysis
CONCLUSION: RBA-CHD may treat BA-CHD by regulating adrenergic receptor beta-1, alpha 1-α adrenergic receptor, calcium voltage-gated channel subunit alpha1 C, alpha-1β-adrenergic receptor, nitric oxide synthase 2, beta-2 adrenergic receptor, voltage-dependent calcium channel subunit alpha-2/delta-1, an- giotensin-converting enzyme, Raf-1 proto-oncogene serine/threonine-protein kinase, and other targets, potentially by affecting adrenergic receptor binding and calcium channel opening, to regulate the activity of cardiomyocytes.PMID:37679988 | PMC:PMC10465840 | DOI:10.19852/j.cnki.jtcm.20230802.001

Ant-nest type porous scaffold with micro-struts consisting of carbonate apatite for promoting bone formation and scaffold resorption
In this study, ant-nest type porous (ANP) scaffolds consisting of CO3 Ap were fabricated using calcium carbonate powder or slurry and two types of polyurethane foam through a dissolution-precipitation reaction. ANP-type, three-dimensional, interconnected porous CO3 Ap scaffolds were fabricated by burning out the struts of polyurethane foams embedded in CaCO3 , followed by compositional transformation from CaCO3 to CO3 Ap. The types of polyurethane foam and impregnation methods of CaCO3 into polyurethane form affected the geometry of the resulting ANP structures. Mechanical and in vivo biological performances of these scaff...

Arsenic fractionation and speciation in different textured soils supplied with farmyard manure and accumulation by sunflower under alkaline calcareous conditions
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Sep 8. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-29659-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTArsenic (As) is a naturally occurring element that is found in soil, water, and rocks. However, it can also be released into the environment through human activities. Arsenic is considered an environmental hazard because it is toxic to humans and animals and can cause serious health problems. Additionally, As-contaminated soil can limit plant growth and reduce crop yields, leading to economic losses for farmers. So, decreasing metal/metalloid solubility in soil by synthetic and organic amendments leads to better crop prod...

Development of mechanistic models for the description of radionuclide retention onto calcareous gravels
Chemosphere. 2023 Sep 6:140097. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.140097. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe retention capacity of natural calcareous gravels used as a filling material between the packages containing radioactive waste materials in the disposal cells was evaluated for Sr, U, Ni, Ag, 14C, 99Tc, 239Pu, 228Th and 152Eu. The thermodynamic calculations performed considering repository conditions indicated that the chemistry of most of these elements was dominated by neutral or cationic species, this is the case of 238Pu 152Eu, 228Th, Ni and Ag. The studied gravels presented high sorption capacities for these cation...

Electrolyte imbalance causes suppression of NK and T cell effector function in malignant ascites
CONCLUSION: Our data suggest a novel electrolyte-based mechanism of immunosuppression in malignant ascites of patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis. We show for the first time that the immunosuppression of NK cytotoxicity in coculture assays is correlated to patient poor survival. Therapeutic application of sodium channel inhibitors may provide new means for restoring immune cell activity in ascites or similar electrolyte imbalanced environments.PMID:37684704 | DOI:10.1186/s13046-023-02798-8
