Healthy eating interventions delivered in early childhood education and care settings for improving the diet of children aged six months to six years
CONCLUSIONS: ECEC-based healthy eating interventions may improve child diet quality slightly, but the evidence is very uncertain, and likely increase child fruit consumption slightly. There is uncertainty about the effect of ECEC-based healthy eating interventions on vegetable consumption. ECEC-based healthy eating interventions may result in little to no difference in child consumption of non-core foods and sugar-sweetened beverages. Healthy eating interventions could have favourable effects on child weight and risk of overweight and obesity, although there was little to no difference in BMI and BMI z-scores. Future studi...

Associations between protein to non-protein ratio and intakes of other dietary components in a cohort aged 65-75 years: the Nutrition for Healthy Living Study
CONCLUSIONS: Higher P:NP was associated with lower intakes of energy, saturated fat, free sugar and discretionary. Our study revealed substantial nutritional inadequacy in this group of higher socioeconomic individuals aged 65-75 years.PMID:37565467 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980023001726

Towards effective restriction of unhealthy food marketing to children: unlocking the potential of artificial intelligence
Int J Behav Nutr Phys Act. 2023 May 26;20(1):61. doi: 10.1186/s12966-023-01458-6.ABSTRACTThe World Health Organization recommends that member states enact policies to limit unhealthy food marketing to children. Chile enacted relatively stringent laws that restrict unhealthy food marketing to children in two phases, beginning in 2016. Dillman-Carpentier and colleagues examined the incremental effectiveness of the first and second phases of Chile's policy in limiting children's exposure to unhealthy food marketing on television relative to pre-policy. Banning advertisements for all 'high-in' products (i.e., those that exceed...

Food consumption patterns related to excess weight and obesity in Spanish preschoolers
CONCLUSION: Having a food consumption pattern considered unhealthy (i.e., low intake of vegetables/fruits, high consumption of confectionery products, sugar-sweetened beverages, fast-food, and snacks) was associated with presenting excess weight/obesity among Spanish preschoolers.IMPACT: No studies have examined the specific food consumption patterns associated with excess weight or obesity among Spanish preschoolers. The unhealthiest food consumption pattern was characterized by a food consumption pattern that included a lower intake of vegetables and fruits and a higher consumption of confectionery products, sugar-sweete...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 11828: Reducing Sugar Intake in South Africa: Learnings from A Multilevel Policy Analysis on Diet and Noncommunicable Disease Prevention
t Were Tolu Oni High sugar intake contributes to diet-related excess weight and obesity and is a key determinant for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The World Health Organization (WHO) gives specific advice on limiting sugar intake in adults and children. Yet, to what extent have policy ideas on sugar intake reduction originating at the global level found expression at lower levels of policymaking? A systematic policy document analysis identified policies issued at the African regional, South African national and Western Cape provincial levels between 2000 and 2020 using s...

The efficacy of a multi-strategy choice architecture intervention on improving the nutritional quality of high school students' lunch purchases from online canteens (Click & amp; Crunch High Schools): a cluster randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that a low intensity, choice architecture intervention embedded within an online ordering system can increase the purchase of healthier food items for high school students in one Australian state without any adverse impact on canteen revenue.TRIAL REGISTRATION: This trial was prospectively registered on Open Science Framework on 23rd October 2020 as osf.io/h8zfr.PMID:36104738 | DOI:10.1186/s12966-022-01362-5

Aberrant Protein Glycosylation in Brain Cancers, with Emphasis on Glioblastoma
Adv Exp Med Biol. 2022;1382:39-70. doi: 10.1007/978-3-031-05460-0_4.ABSTRACTAberrant glycosylation has been associated with several processes of tumorigenesis from cell signaling, migration and invasion, to immune regulation and metastasis formation. The biosynthesis of glycoconjugates is regulated through concerted and finely tuned enzymatic reactions. This includes the levels and activity of glycosyltransferases and glycosidases, nucleotide sugar metabolism, substrate availability, epigenetic condition, and cellular functional state. Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most aggressive brain tumor, frequently occurring in adults wi...
