Greenspace related to bipolar disorder in Taiwan: Quantitative benefits of saving DALY loss and increasing income
Health Place. 2023 Aug 16;83:103097. doi: 10.1016/j.healthplace.2023.103097. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTScientific evidence reported that surrounding greenspace could promote better mental health. Considering bipolar disorder as the health outcome, this study aimed to investigate the association between greenspace and bipolar disorder in Taiwan and quantified the benefits of greenspace on bipolar disorder adjusted for the international greenspace availability standard. By examining datasets across 348 townships, two quantitative measures (i.e., disability-adjusted life year loss and income) were used to represent the be...

Dapagliflozin protects against doxorubicin-induced nephrotoxicity associated with nitric oxide pathway-A translational study
Free Radic Biol Med. 2023 Aug 5:S0891-5849(23)00585-3. doi: 10.1016/j.freeradbiomed.2023.08.013. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDoxorubicin (Dox) is a potent anticancer agent, but its associated organ toxicity, including nephrotoxicity, restricts clinical applications. Dapagliflozin (DAPA), a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor, has been shown to slow the progression of kidney disease in patients with and without diabetes. However, the effect of DAPA to counteract Dox-induced nephrotoxicity remains uncertain. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to elucidate the effects of DAPA in mitigating Dox-induced nephrotoxicity. W...

Durability of biological valves implanted in aortic or mitral positions: A nationwide cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Bioprosthetic valve placement in the aortic position is associated with superior outcomes in terms of durability, long-term mortality, and perioperative morbidity. Developing novel interventions and enhancing valve durability would expand bioprosthesis use for valve replacement.PMID:37356516 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2023.05.038

Risk of retinal vein occlusion in colorectal cancer patients receiving anti-vascular endothelial growth factors - a population-based cohort study
CONCLUSION: Our results indicated no association between use of anti-VEGF and occurrence of RVO among CRC patients, although the crude incidence rate of RVO was higher in patients receiving anti-VEGF, compared to control patients. Future study with larger sample size is required to confirm our findings.PMID:37316803 | DOI:10.1186/s12885-023-11037-4

The real-world adherence of the first-line anti-osteoporosis medications in Taiwan: Visualize the gap between reality and expectations
CONCLUSION: The initial AOMs and the observed adherence may provide clues for optimizing patient treatment. The real-world adherence in Taiwan was far from satisfactory in our study.PMID:37302970 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2023.05.022

Denosumab treatment and infection risks in patients with osteoporosis: propensity score matching analysis of a national-wide population-based cohort study
We present a population-based national cohort study to evaluate the infection risks in patients with osteoporosis after long-term denosumab therapy.METHODS: We used the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) to identify patients with osteoporosis. The case cohort comprised patients treated with denosumab. Propensity score (PS) matching was used to select denosumab nonusers for the control cohort. The study period was between August 2011 and December 2017. Our study comprised 30,106 pairs of case and control patients.RESULTS: Patients receiving denosumab therapy had high risks of the following infections...
