Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and the psychiatric post-acute sequelae of COVID-19: A one-year retrospective cohort analysis of 33,908 patients
CONCLUSION: Omega-3 PUFAs may require re-evaluation as a preventive strategy against adverse mental health outcomes post-COVID-19 in placebo-controlled clinical trials.PMID:37716377 | DOI:10.1016/j.bbi.2023.09.008

Clinical phenotypes and quality of life to define post-COVID-19 syndrome: a cluster analysis of the multinational, prospective ORCHESTRA cohort
EClinicalMedicine. 2023 Jul 21;62:102107. doi: 10.1016/j.eclinm.2023.102107. eCollection 2023 Aug.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Lack of specific definitions of clinical characteristics, disease severity, and risk and preventive factors of post-COVID-19 syndrome (PCS) severely impacts research and discovery of new preventive and therapeutics drugs.METHODS: This prospective multicenter cohort study was conducted from February 2020 to June 2022 in 5 countries, enrolling SARS-CoV-2 out- and in-patients followed at 3-, 6-, and 12-month from diagnosis, with assessment of clinical and biochemical features, antibody (Ab) response, Variant o...

Gastrointestinal tract and viral pathogens
World J Virol. 2023 Jun 25;12(3):136-150. doi: 10.5501/wjv.v12.i3.136.ABSTRACTViral gastroenteritis is the most common viral illness that affects the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, causing inflammation and irritation of the lining of the stomach and intestines. Common signs and symptoms associated with this condition include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and dehydration. The infections commonly involved in viral gastroenteritis are rotavirus, norovirus, and adenovirus, which spread through the fecal-oral and contact routes and cause non-bloody diarrhea. These infections can affect both immunocompetent and immunocompromised indiv...

Computer-aided drug design for the pain-like protease (PL < sup > pro < /sup > ) inhibitors against SARS-CoV-2
This report used pharmacophore-based drug design technology to identify potential compounds as PLpro inhibitors against SARS-CoV-2. The optimal pharmacophore model was fully validated using different strategies and then was employed to virtually screen out 10 compounds with inhibitory. Molecular docking and non-bonding interactions between the targeted protein PLpro and compounds showed that UKR1129266 was the best compound. These results provided a theoretical foundation for future studies of PLpro inhibitors against SARS-CoV-2.PMID:36689835 | DOI:10.1016/j.biopha.2023.114247

Management of cardiovascular symptoms after Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in teenagers in the emergency department
CONCLUSION: Pericarditis or myocarditis was diagnosed in 7.2% of adolescents presenting to the emergency department with cardiovascular symptoms after BNT vaccination. In addition to the troponin T level, ECG change listed above can be used as a screening tool for vaccine-induced cardiac complications.PMID:36564302 | PMC:PMC9744679 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2022.12.004

A retrospective evaluation of side-effects associated with the booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech/BNT162b2 COVID-19 vaccine among females in Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia
CONCLUSIONS: All reported side-effects were mild to moderate. These findings might persuade pessimists and refusers to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Myalgia and pain or redness at the site of injection were the most common reported side-effects in our study.PMID:36404426 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.10.009
