HPV vaccine acceptance in West Africa: A systematic literature review
Vaccine. 2021 Aug 5:S0264-410X(21)00835-5. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2021.06.074. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHuman papillomavirus (HPV) infections are mostly sexually transmitted and cause the greatest share of infection-associated cancers. Each year more than half a million women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and the mortality rate in West Africa is over ten times higher than that of Northern Europe. HPV vaccines are highly effective at preventing various strains of the infection. However, vaccine hesitancy and access issues have led to low HPV vaccine acceptance in certain countries. A search strategy was developed ...

Interventions targeted at women to encourage the uptake of cervical screening
CONCLUSIONS: There is moderate-certainty evidence to support the use of invitation letters to increase the uptake of cervical screening. Low-certainty evidence showed lay health worker involvement amongst ethnic minority populations may increase screening coverage, and there was also support for educational interventions, but it is unclear what format is most effective. The majority of the studies were from developed countries and so the relevance of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), is unclear. Overall, the low-certainty evidence that was identified makes it difficult to infer as to which interventions were best, ...

Cervical Cancer and Human Papillomavirus Vaccine Knowledge, Utilisation, Prevention Educational Interventions and Policy Response in Nigeria: A Scoping Review
CONCLUSION: Knowledge and uptake of cervical cancer preventive services across diverse groups in Nigeria remain poor. These could be linked to socio-cultural factors, the lack of an organised cervical cancer screening programme and low financial resource pool for cervical cancer prevention. Therefore, it is necessary to increase government, donor prioritisation and political support in order to ensure increased investment and commitment to cervical cancer elimination in Nigeria.PMID:36168955 | DOI:10.1177/10732748221130180

Accounting for Adverse Events Following Immunization in Economic Evaluation: Systematic Review of Economic Evaluations of Pediatric Vaccines Against Pneumococcus, Rotavirus, Human Papillomavirus, Meningococcus and Measles-Mumps-Rubella-Varicella
DiscussionAlthough (mild) AEFI were demonstrated for all five studied vaccines, only a quarter of reviewed studies accounted for these, mostly in an incomplete and inaccurate manner. We provide guidance on which methods to use to better quantify the impact of AEFI on both costs and health outcomes. Policymakers should be aware that the impact of AEFI on cost-effectiveness is likely to be underestimated in the majority of economic evaluations.

Are Interventions Efficacious at Increasing Human Papillomavirus Vaccinations Among Adults? A Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: Evidence supports the efficacy of interventions to increase intentions to receive the HPV vaccine and completion of the HPV vaccine series in adults. However, evidence did not support the efficacy of interventions to increase HPV vaccine initiation. Findings highlight directions for developing more efficacious HPV vaccine interventions for adults.PMID:37001049 | DOI:10.1093/abm/kaac043
