Clot removal device dramatically improves outcomes for people with acute ischemic stroke
A new device to remove obstructing blood clots can significantly improve outcomes for people who suffer a certain type of stroke, according to a study led by a UCLA investigator. In patients with acute ischemic stroke — in which a clot blocks the blood supply to part of the brain — who received a clot-busting drug, removing the obstructing blood clot with a stent retriever device significantly reduced post-stroke disability and increased the percentage of patients who were independent in daily function after three months. Modifying flow in the ACA-ACoA complex: endovascular treatment option for wide-neck internal carotid artery bifurcation aneurysms
Conclusions We found that the proposed technique of flow modification can allow for hemodynamic conversion of ICAb to ‘side-wall’ aneurysm. In patients with good collateral flow through the anterior communicating complex, this treatment paradigm is safe and effective.

Endovascular coiling versus parent artery occlusion for treatment of cavernous carotid aneurysms: a meta-analysis
Conclusions Evidence from non-comparative studies suggests that traditional endovascular options are highly effective in treating cavernous sinus aneurysms. PAO is associated with a higher rate of complete occlusion. Periprocedural morbidity and mortality rates are not negligible, especially in patients receiving PAO.

Endovascular treatment of unruptured wide-necked intracranial aneurysms: comparison of dual microcatheter technique and stent-assisted coil embolization
Conclusions DMT and SAC are effective endovascular approaches for unruptured, wide-necked aneurysms; however, DMT may result in less morbidity. Further long-term studies are necessary to determine the optimal indications for these treatment options.

Conventional endovascular treatment of small intracranial aneurysms is not associated with additional risks compared with treatment of larger aneurysms
Conclusions Treatment of small intracranial aneurysms via conventional endovascular coiling techniques is not inferior to endovascular treatment of larger aneurysms based on our single institution experience. While technically challenging, such aneurysms may be treated safely and effectively with acceptable rates of complications and recurrence.

Conclusions The PED should be used selectively in the setting of acute SAH. Dual antiplatelet therapy can complicate hydrocephalus management, and the lack of immediate aneurysm occlusion creates the risk of short-term re-rupture. PED treatment for iatrogenic ICA pseudoaneurysms can provide a good angiographic and neurological outcome.

Surpass Flow Diverter in the Treatment of Intracranial Aneurysms: A Prospective Multicenter Study EVIDENCE-BASED MEDICINE LEVEL 2
CONCLUSIONS: Clinical outcomes of the Surpass flow diverter in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms show a safety profile that is comparable with that of stent-assisted coil embolization. Angiographic results showed a high rate of intracranial aneurysm occlusion.

Recurrent posterior circulation infarction caused by anomalous occipital bony process in a young patient
Conclusion: Arterial thromboembolism originating from the left vertebral artery compressed by the anomalous occipital bony process is a rare but not to be overlooked cause of posterior circulation infarction. When intractable to medical treatment, endovascular occlusion of the vertebral artery without flow disturbance to the posterior circulation may be a useful treatment option when surgical removal is not feasible.

Final results of the multicenter, prospective Axium MicroFX for Endovascular Repair of IntraCranial Aneurysm Study (AMERICA)
Conclusions In this prospective, multicenter series of 100 aneurysms treated with Axium MicroFX PGLA (polyglycolic/polylactic acid) coils, 3–6 month angiographic occlusion and clinical outcomes were excellent. This study suggests that Axium MicroFX PGLA coils are safe and effective in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms.
