Regarding “Poststent ballooning is associated with increased periprocedural stroke and death rate in carotid artery stenting”
We read with interest this article regarding the risks of balloon angioplasty during carotid stenting procedures. We applaud the authors for recognizing that the goal of carotid stenosis treatment should be stabilization of plaque emboli, not restoration of normal vessel diameter. We would like to point out that there is evidence that carotid stenting can be safely and effectively performed without the use of prestent or poststent ballooning.1,2 As the authors acknowledge, self-expanding stents continue to expand after deployment.

Has the difference in mortality between percutaneous coronary intervention and coronary artery bypass grafting in people with heart disease and diabetes changed over the years? A systematic review and meta-regression
Conclusions The difference in outcome between PCI and CABG in diabetics has not narrowed from the beginning—with balloon angioplasty to current PCI—with the second generation of drug eluting stents. In contrast to the non-diabetics, there is a persistent 30% benefit in all cause mortality favouring CABG in diabetics, and this should be a major factor in treatment recommendation.

Temporal Trends in Clinical Outcomes Following Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Patients with Renal Insufficiency.
CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of cardiovascular events after PCI has reduced during the 26-year period mainly because of the reduction in repeat revascularization in patients with renal insufficiency, despite the higher risk profiles in the recent era. ConclusionsStenting of the left pulmonary artery after Norwood/Fontan palliation is safe and effective. Stents can be redilated to match somatic growth. The incidence of neointimal proliferation is extremely low and can be addressed by balloon dilation or stent implantation. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Impact of Perioperative Complications After Endovascular Therapy in Diabetic Patients With Critical Limb Ischemia due to Isolated Infrapopliteal Lesions
Conclusion: POCs within 30 days after balloon angioplasty for infrapopliteal disease in diabetics with CLI were more likely to occur in patients with low BMI and tissue loss. POC occurrence was associated with major adverse limb events in follow-up but not with mortality or wound healing.

Single Centre Experience of Endovascular Intervention in Extra and Intracranial Vertebro-Basilar Stenosis at a Tertiary Care Centre (P1.197)

Use of Cardiac Stents to Reperfuse the Brain (P2.280)

Experience with vertebral artery origin stenting and ostium dilatation: results of treatment and clinical outcomes

Solitaire stents for the treatment of complex symptomatic intracranial stenosis after antithrombotic failure: safety and efficacy evaluation
Conclusions This is the first case series study of ICAS treated by Solitaire stent placement. Deployment of a Solitaire stent with balloon angioplasty in the treatment of complex severe intracranial stenosis appears safe and effective, with a high technical success rate, relatively low periprocedural complication rate, and favorable outcome during follow-up.

Primary percutaneous coronary intervention (“primary PCI”) has undergone a remarkable evolution over the last quarter century and is the preferred reperfusion strategy in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) [1,2]. Primary balloon angioplasty was introduced in the early 1980s and evolved over the subsequent decade. Compared with fibrinolytic therapy, primary balloon angioplasty resulted in higher rates of restoration of TIMI 3 flow and lower rates of recurrent ischemia, reinfarction, stroke, and death [3].
