Evaluation of an online intervention for improving stroke survivors ’ health-related quality of life: A randomised controlled trial
ConclusionsThe P2S online healthy lifestyle program improved stroke survivors ’ self-reported global ratings of HRQoL (as measured by EQ-VAS) at 6-month follow-up. Online platforms represent a promising tool to engage and support some stroke survivors. Trial registrationAustralian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry ACTRN12617001205325.

Genetic associations of adult height with risk of cardioembolic and other subtypes of ischemic stroke: A mendelian randomization study in multiple ancestries
by Andrew B. Linden, Robert Clarke, Imen Hammami, Jemma C. Hopewell, Yu Guo, William N. Whiteley, Kuang Lin, Iain Turnbull, Yiping Chen, Canqing Yu, Jun Lv, Alison Offer, Derrick Bennett, Robin G. Walters, Liming Li, Zhengming Chen, Sarah Parish, for the China Kadoorie Biobank Collaborative Group BackgroundTaller adult height is associated with lower risks of ischemic heart disease in mendelian randomization (MR) studies, but little is known about the causal relevance of height for different subtypes of ischemic stroke. The present study examined the causal relevance of height for different subtypes of ischemic stroke. Met...

Cardiovascular outcomes and mortality after incident ischaemic stroke in patients with a recent cancer history
CONCLUSIONS: After incident ischaemic stroke, patients with recent cancer history have a lower risk of composite MACE and recurrent stroke outcomes but a higher risk of all-cause mortality when compared with patients without a prior history of cancer.PMID:36549951 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejim.2022.12.006

Prevalence and natural history of depression after stroke: A systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies
ConclusionsIn this study, we observed that stroke survivors with early-onset depression (within 3 months after stroke) are at high risks for remaining depressed and make up two-thirds of the incident cases during 1 year after stroke. This highlights the need for ongoing clinical monitoring of patients depressed shortly after stroke. Trial RegistrationPROSPERO CRD42022314146.

Post‐stroke urinary incontinence
ConclusionCurrent evidence supports a thorough assessment to categorise the type and severity of post‐stroke urinary incontinence. An individually tailored, structured management strategy to promote continence should be employed. This has been associated with better stroke outcomes and should be the aim of all stroke health professionals.

A Retrospective Cohort Study Comparing Stroke Recurrence Rate in Ischemic Stroke Patients With and Without Acupuncture Treatment
This study compared the risk of stroke recurrence between ischemic stroke cohorts with and without acupuncture treatment by calculating adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of acupuncture associated with stroke recurrence in the Cox proportional hazard model. The stroke recurrence rate per 1000 person-years decreased from 71.4 without to 69.9 with acupuncture treatment (P

Preadmission use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and short‐term mortality in diabetic patients hospitalized due to stroke
ConclusionIn patients with diabetes, preadmission SSRI use was associated with increased mortality following ischaemic stroke, compared with nonuse.

Seasonality of Stroke in Finland.
CONCLUSIONS: All major stroke subtypes occurred most commonly in autumn and most infrequently in summer. Seasonality of in-hospital mortality and length of hospital stay appears to vary by stroke subtype. The seasonal pattern of ischemic stroke occurrence appears to have changed during the past decades. A nearly full-recovery from AVM hemorrhagic stroke 17 years after insult using a new integrated neurodevelopmental approach: A case report
This study investigated a novel approach to chronic-phase stroke rehabilitation using traditional child motor-learning techniques, play, and proprioceptive-building activities in addition to current stroke rehabilitation techniques. During an initial six-month period, followed by a three-year period, the participant used motor-developmental learning activities as well as traditional strength, gait, and balance training. During the initial phase of treatment, clinically-significant improvements were recorded along with self-reported lifestyle enhancements. These gains continued throughout the three-and-a-half year process. ...

Postmenopausal hormone therapy and risk of stroke: A pooled analysis of data from population-based cohort studies
by Germ án D. Carrasquilla, Paolo Frumento, Anita Berglund, Christer Borgfeldt, Matteo Bottai, Chiara Chiavenna, Mats Eliasson, Gunnar Engström, Göran Hallmans, Jan-Håkan Jansson, Patrik K. Magnusson, Peter M. Nilsson, Nancy L. Pedersen, Alicja Wolk, Karin Leander BackgroundRecent research indicates a favourable influence of postmenopausal hormone therapy (HT) if initiated early, but not late, on subclinical atherosclerosis. However, the clinical relevance of timing of HT initiation for hard end points such as stroke remains to be determined. Further, no previous research has considered the timing of initiation of HT i...

The effectiveness of culturally tailored video narratives on medication understanding and use self-efficacy among stroke patients: A randomized controlled trial study protocol
Discussion and conclusion: The study should be able to determine if video narrative can induce a positive behavioral change towards stroke risk factor control via enhanced medication understanding and use self-efficacy. This intervention is innovative as it combines health belief, motivation, and role model concept to trigger self-efficacy in maintaining healthy behaviors and better disease management. Trial registration: ACTRN (12618000174280).

Epidemiology, risk factors and characteristics of pediatric stroke: a nationwide population-based study
Conclusions and implicationsInfants younger than 2  years, boys and children in lower socioeconomic status have a significantly higher risk of stroke. Hemorrhagic stroke has a significantly higher mortality rate than ischemic stroke. More than half of the children with stroke had underlying diseases and the causes of hemorrhagic stroke are signifi cantly different from ischemic stroke.
